Update on progress

The two essential strands of BUILD:- 1. Maintaining the premises 2. Changing and enhancing the premises

Maintaining the premises What we have been up to:- All the remedial works to the fixed electrical circuits are now complete. All remedial roof works are now complete. For the main hall, a new fire proof shutter has been ordered and will be fitted at the end of the year.

Maintaining the premises Work to be done in the near future:- Along the primary fire exit routes all the doors need to provide 30 minutes resistance. Fixed electrical and asbestos surveys will be undertaken in the Sports shop and Warehouse.

Maintaining the premises The total cost of maintenance work to date is in the region of £40,000 We now have a water tight building We continue to work towards meeting all the necessary legislation and insurance requirements.

Storage 2010 We are aiming to have all the children’s and youth work storage in the link between the Main Hall & Stables We are considering using the large walk-in as a cleaner’s store and flower arranger’s area & store.

Changing the premises What we have been up to:- The Project Board has met twice to discuss all aspects of the project – funding, communication and the development process Lewis Patten Architects have been appointed to Planning stage. Since the last update the Development Team has met with the architect twice

Changing the premises Appointing a Quantity Surveyor. We invited four practices to tender a fee structure for the project. After careful consideration we have selected the Hoggarth Cooke Partnership to work with us.

Changing the premises Appointing a CDM consultant Again we invited four practices to tender a fee structure for the project. We have agreed to appoint Alderson Deane to this role.

Changing the Premises What’s next? We are arranging to meet the Planners at Southend Borough Council before Christmas The Quantity Surveyor will provide an initial budget figure

We will present the revised plans and consult with the Leadership, church members, stakeholders and friends during January & February We aim to submit the agreed scheme for Planning consent during March.

Changing the premises The total cost for both maintaining and changing the premises is £900,000. Timescales: Maintenance is on-going and the aim is to start changing the premises in January 2011.
