Welcome to a training on the TMD Promoting Practice Development Program.
The goal for the Practice Development Program is to show all firm members how they can support the ongoing growth of the firm, to acknowledge those that make strides in this area and to share stories of our success for everyone to benefit from.
The benefits of this program to you include - increased visibility of your practice development efforts - increased ability to learn from other’s in the firm with established practice development skills - and points - practice development nominations are automatically approved for 5 points when you submit them and on a quarterly basis partners select a few top nominations to receive additional points!!
This program centers around: TMD’s Practice Development Competencies and Behaviors and provides a structure for people to set goals for themselves and then nominate themselves one to four times a month to share stories of their Practice Development successes.
The TMD Practice Development Competencies are: Building business development expertise Marketing yourself and the firm Strengthening client relationships Growing the business A complete list of behaviors associated with these four competencies, can be found on the TMD Experience Recognition website and should be your next stop after this training.
This program is about increasing individual and firm-wide success – and so here is what you can do to support yourself and the firm’s goals.
Start with a TMD Practice Development Competency that you would like to gain skills in and then select a particular behavior – either from the list or something that you have seen others do that falls within that competency. Next determine what your obstacles have been to acquiring this skill in the past and from there determine some strategies to overcoming these obstacles in the future. Put these strategies into practice and the nominate yourself – either with your success or what you have learned that will make you more successful in the future. You will find a worksheet that you can use to walk yourself through this process on the TMD Experience Website.
Let’s review an example now for Marketing Yourself and the Firm
A behavior within that competency that anyone in the firm could focus on is “Develop and share a 30-second “elevator pitch” that engages people with your work and the firm.
An obstacle that you may have to fully realizing this behavior is being “uncertain about how to phrase the most meaningful of TMD’s differentiators in a way that will make sense and be engaging.”
In this case a strategy you could use to overcome the obstacle and increase your ability to perform this behavior is to: Meet with a partner to draft an “elevator pitch” or a short, simple sentence or two that describes the unique benefits of working with TMD or my group. Practice using this statement at my next large party or networking event.
And finally hold yourself accountable for implementing these strategies by nominating yourself one to four times a month. This is an example of the Practice Development iNominate Form that you will be able to use to do so.
As a next step go to the Recognition Home page where you can find: A Promoting Practice Development Program Overview to reference as necessary The complete list of TMD Practice Development Competencies and Behaviors that you can print for your reference A Strategies for Success handout that you can print and use to determine your behavioral focus, highlight your obstacles and develop your strategies for moving forward. The link to the nomination form to use in sharing your experiences with the rest of the firm one to four times a month. The database of existing nominations that can be sorted by competency for you to read and learn from.
Thank you for your time. Enjoy using the program to build your skills, read about other firm member’s successes and share your stories of success.
