what is Relay For Life?

A unique overnight event: 22 hours (beginning noon on Sat 10 July 2010)

Survivor’s kick off our Relay. They are our guests of honour, and will walk the Survivors’ Lap of Honour following the Opening Ceremony…

Let Relay begin! All activities take place in and around a track. entertainment food activities games fancy dress fun friends

All we ask is that someone from your team is on the track for 22 hours.

As night falls we all gather together for the moving and poignant Candle of Hope ceremony, to pay tribute to those who have been affected by cancer.

As it’s an overnight event, team members can set up camp – our camp-site will be within a giant marquee. Our very own Relay village… cosy!

During the Closing Ceremony we look back at an unforgettable weekend. By the time it ends, you won’t want to leave. Why not join us for a celebratory drink?

Most of the money comes from the public; people like you and me, taking part in events like Relay For Life.

But does the research really make a difference?

YES!

In the 1970s only 50% of women with breast cancer survived for more than five years. Now 80% are surviving. 50% 80%

In the 1960s only 25% of children with cancer survived for more than five years. 25% >70% Now more than 70% are surviving.

98% of men diagnosed with testicular cancer are now successfully treated.

More people are surviving cancer than ever before. The overall death rate has fallen by 10% in the last 10 years alone.

But there’s still a long way to go…

150,000 people die every year. 290,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year… That means 1 out of every 2 people don’t survive cancer.
