What does INTERCEPT mean? In football, an “interception” happens when the path of the defender crosses the path of the thrown football. In algebra, knowing what “intercept” means will help you identify x- and y-intercepts.

Vocabulary The x-intercept is where the graph crosses the x-axis. (It is where the y-coordinate =0.) The y-intercept is where the graph crosses the y-axis. (It is where the x-coordinate =0.)
