The Solar System By Katie
Sun The core of the sun is about 28 Million Degrees Fahrenheit. The surface of the sun is about 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit It is Estimated that the sun is four and half Thousand million years old!
Mercury Mercury has the least studied plant in our Solar System. Mercury is 1/3 the size of Earth. 1year on Mercury is equal to 87.9 Earth days.
Venus Venus is the name of the Greek Goddess of Love. Astronomers have had a hard time studding the surface of the planet. Venus is the brightest planet from the planet Earth. It is known as the Evening Star.
Earth 70 of the surface of the Earth is cover with water. The Earth orbits the sun at the speed of 67,000 miles per hour. Earth is the only planet in the Solar System with liquid water.
Mars Mars has 2 moons named Phobos and Deimos. Mars has the largest volcano in the Solar System ,Olympus Mon, with is 16.8 miles high and 370 miles in diameter. Mars has the largest canyon in the Solar System ,Valles Marineris it is more than 2,480 miles long and 3 to 6 miles deep.
Jupiter The Red Eye of Jupiter is actually a giant hurricane. The storm is 2 times larger than the planet Earth and has been constant for more than 300 years! Jupiter is the largest planet in the Solar System. The planet Jupiter has 4 faint rings.
Saturn Saturn has the lowest density of any of the planets this would allow the planet to float in water. The wind near Saturn’s equator blow at 1,100 miles per hour, making Saturn the windiest planet. Saturn’s largest moon, Titan, is larger than the planet Mercury.
Uranus There has been one space craft to pass by Uranus, it discovered 10 moons and the rings of the planet. Uranus is know as the sideways planet because it’s axis is tilted 98 degrees. Uranus takes 84 years to orbit the sun.
Neptune Neptune and Pluto switch positions during their obit around the Sun ,Neptune is closer for 20 years! Neptune has at lest 13 moons. Neptune has a Great Dark spot, similar to the Red spot on Jupiter.
Pluto It takes 248 years for Pluto to orbit the Sun. The average temperature on Pluto is -415 degrees F. Pluto has 3 moons named Charon, Nix and Hydra.
