DENGUE FEVER CASES IN CALASIAO January to July 31, 2008
UPDATE A total of 65 cases of Dengue Fever, both suspects and confirmed, was reported in Calasiao, Pangasinan from January to July 31 this year. More cases are expected as reports continue to arrive at the Health Office Calasiao is at present, has the second most number of cases after Dagupan City among the 44 municipalities and 4 cities of Pangasinan. A total of 10 cases were reported for January with no cases reported during the months of February and March. There was one death reported in the month of July for case fatality rate of 1.54%.
INFORMATION Of the 65 Dengue Fever cases reported up to the 31st day of July this year, thirty-eight (38) are males and twenty-seven (27) are females with the youngest at 6 months old and the oldest at 52. Nineteen (19) out of the total twenty-four (24) barangays of Calasiao have reported cases. Significant increase for the past week were observed in Barangays Malabago (which continues to have the most number at 10 cases), Lasip (where the lone death due to Dengue Fever came from Lumbang, Mancup, Nagsaing, Nalsian, Longos and Macabito (the last three with no previous cases reported), with resurgence of cases in Bued , Buenlag and Talibaew.
The Dengue Fever cases reported from January to July 31 for this year 2008 is several time higher than that of last year covering the same period as well as that of the year 2006 when Calasiao had a total of 110 cases. There were only 3 cases reported last year and 24 cases in 2006 compared to the 65 for this year and this signifies a very sharp increase necessitating continuous proper interventions in the control and preventive activities against Dengue Fever.
Twelve (12) reported Dengue Fever suspect cases are still under investigation and if all will be found to be Dengue Fever cases, the total may rise to seventy one (71) cases, comparable to the 2005 statistics but the total number of seventy four (74) then was for the whole year of 2005 while the 71 for this year is up to this month of July only. Hopefully, through proper interventions, the situation will get better and not reach the level of 2006 (110 cases).
