DENGUE FEVER CASES IN CALASIAO January to August 15, 2008
UPDATE A total of 151 suspect cases of Dengue Fever were reported in Calasiao, Pangasinan from January to August 15 this year although there may be other cases not yet reported. The reporting on Dengue Fever cases is dependent on data coming from both government and private hospitals where majority of the cases are managed and treated. This report will serve as a tool for intervention and response actions of the local government unit of Calasiao and the Health Office. There was one death reported in the month of July for case fatality rate of 0.66 %.
INFORMATION Of the 151 Dengue Fever suspect cases reported up to the 15th day of August this year, eighty-two (82) are males and sixty-nine (69) are females with the youngest at 5 ½ months old and the oldest at 56. Twenty-three (23) out of the total twenty-four (24) barangays of Calasiao have reported cases. Significant increase for the past week was observed in Barangays Ambuetel, Buenlag, Lasip, Dinalaoan, Nagsaing and Talibaew. Barangay Malabago has the most number of cases followed by Barangay San Miguel.
The Dengue Fever cases reported from January to August 15 for this year 2008 is several time higher than that of last year covering the same period as well as that of the year 2006 when Calasiao had a total of 110 cases. There were only 6 cases reported last year and 47 cases in 2006 compared to the 151 for this year and this signifies a very sharp increase necessitating continuous proper interventions in the control and preventive activities against Dengue Fever.
The number of reported Dengue Fever suspect cases of 151 is the highest recorded incidence of Dengue Fever since 1998 when Calasiao had a total of 271 cases with three deaths.
Based on the computation of the data of Dengue Cases in Calasiao for the past five years shows that the present number of cases has actually breached the epidemic threshold for the Dengue Fever statistics and this requires greater efforts to control the Dengue Fever situation.
