Past Simple · O “Past Simple”é usado para expressar ações que tiveram inicio e fim no passado estabelecido. -They clean the house every day. (present simple) - They cleaned the house yesterday.( past simple)
Past Simple é sempre ED para verbos regulares. Work – Worked Watch – Watched Arrive - arrived Stay – Stayed Dance – danced Start – started
Past Simple Alguns advérbios e datas podem compor a oração, facilitando a identificação do tempo verbal. I worked until late yesterday They traveled last weekend. Sarah arrived three days ago.
Alguns verbos são irregulars, não se pode acrescentar ED. Begin- began By – bought Go – went Write –wrote
QUESTIONS Para perguntar sobre o passado é necessário usar o auxiliar DID. Did you do the shopping yesterday? Yes , I did. Did it rain on Sunday? No, it didn’t. Did she go away last week? Yes, she did.
Para se fazer perguntas em inglês, algumas vezes é necessário usar “question words” que indicam o que se quer perguntar, elas são: What - o que? Where - onde? When - quando? Why - porque? Who - quem? How - como?
Where did you go yesterday? When did you graduate? What did you eat for breakfast?
NEGATIVE Para negar no passado usa-se o auxiliary DID + NOT. Helen didn’t work last week because she went to New York. They didn’t enjoy the film. Did they go to the party? - no, they didn’t. Did Mark drink a lot at the party? - no, he didn’t.
PAST OF THE VERB TO BE No passado o verbo TO BE continua tendo dois significados ERA, FOI e ESTAVA AM – WAS IS – WAS ARE – WERE
- She was sick last month- estava - He was a doctor – era - They were our classmates- eram, foram - I was in Madrid in 1998. – estava - We were in São Paulo three weeks ago- estavamos
QUESTIONS Was Michel at home yesterday night? - Were they late for the class two days ago? - Where were you last week?
NEGATIVE WAS + NOT WERE + NOT - I Wasn’t in Brazil in 2000. - We weren’t friends last year. - She wasn’t here yesterday.
PAST CONTINUOUS Past Continuous é usado para falar de uma ação que estava em progresso no passado. I was sleeping at 7.00 a.m They were working in Miami last year. Subj. + verb to be + verb + ing
QUESTION Were they working in Miami last year? yes, they were. Was she sleeping at 10 a.m ? No, she wasn’t.
NEGATIVE WERE + NOT = WEREN’T WAS + NOT= WASN’T - We weren’t watching TV when you arrived. - He wasn’t playing tennis with Tom on Sunday morning.
