Topic: „A Black Umbrella” Przedszkole Publiczne Nr 5 w Głogowie Aim: Feeling a sense of community and need to work as a team for others.
On an autumn day children were telling a picture story “An Adventure With An Umbrella”.
They were discussing how to order pictures so that the pictures told the story about a little girl’s adventure during an autumn walk. Since they found out that there are many ways in which the pictures could be ordered they decided to go for a walk in a park.
The park looked like this…
There were no green leaves on the trees, but there were many colourful ones on the ground. A man was raking them up in picturesque piles and rows. The children were walking along the rows, jumping over the piles, discussing about the colours and shapes of the leaves and how tall were the trees.
The day was foggy and it started to rain.
When the children came back to the kindergarten they found a black umbrella lying on a classroom floor. A grey, foggy day and a black umbrella didn’t encourage kids to play. The teacher asked: “What can we do to make our umbrella look happier?”
She received many ideas: “We can sing some songs”, and the children sang, but the umbrella remained black; “We can dance with it”, but there was only one umbrella and twenty-three children – how to reconcile children since not everyone could dance with the umbrella. The umbrella could break, somebody could be hit with it – would the umbrella be happy if such things happened? Martyna said: “Let’s make it more colourful”. Other children added: “We can draw something for the umbrella”, “Flowers!”, “Or what we like” – said Filip. So the children decided to draw what they liked best for the umbrella, cut it and pin it to the umbrella.
When they finished, they said: “It’s great to do something for someone else” “It’s good to be working together” and, Anna – a teacher added: “Good job, the umbrella is happier now”
And the children went on playing happily…
