Romans and Greeks used to have public bath houses for socialization and entertainment and were hot spots for artists and creative minds to go for inspiration. The lifestyle of owning a hot tub continues till today, think when you go to some ones house and notice they have a large hot tub on their porch or a whirlpool spa as a bathtub, it’s a rather nice confection to think of using that whenever you like. Hot tubs shouldn’t gain credit however as only for the rich or as luxury; they should also be associated with living a healthy lifestyle. When you sit in the warm massaging waters your muscles and blood vessels relax and spread out allowing for more blood and nutrients to flow throughout your body and enabling your body to heal its self. The buoyancy also created for your body takes additional pressure from your internal organs and muscles and allowing them relax and rest. So your body is feeling better which will reflect to your brain as well, endorphins being released create a feeling of well being and a natural release for stress and anxiety. Endorphins are the body’s natural form of morphine and are what is released during exercise, pain or pleasure. Hot tubs are great remedies for disorders of chronic pains such as arthritis but can also be used to help treat diabetes. With more blood flow your body is able to receive more insulin, therefore making for better blood sugar results. There are some cautions for those with certain conditions such as heart disorders, pregnancy or for that taking blood pressure medication or any other medication. If you have a blockage in the coronary arteries, sitting in the warm water will increase the body’s blood flow could cause a heart attack or stroke. Studies have shown that temperatures of 101 degrees Fahrenheit or higher can increase the chance of birth defects and miscarriage. However if you are pregnant normal temperature water is a good opportunity to do exercise since the buoyancy takes some of the weight off your muscles. Be sure to talk with your doctor if you have any questions or doubts if it is ok to use a hot, but in most cases hot tubs are fairly safe. One other concern when using a hot tub is the fact that they are full of water, and run on electricity, usually 220 – 240 volts, however some recent name brands such as Dreammaker hot tubs run on only 110 volts. Either way, water and electricity don’t mix and a wrong choice could be deadly. Since the mid 1990’s hot tubs are required to be equipped with GFCI device which will stop and current of electricity if it the current is disrupted and would save your life if the ground power somehow came into contact anyone. Just be careful to keep hottubs a safe distance from any electrical source such as power lines or electrical sockets and devices.
