Advantages of Audio

Existing PowerPoint presentations may be weak in communicating content
“Bullet Points” alone may not convey sufficient information
On the other hand, don’t try to crowd everything you want to say onto the slides!
Auditory learners need to hear you
Students enjoy it -- end monotony!

Slide 3

Steps…

1. Obtain Microphone & Speakers
Desktop mic can be sufficient
Better to use a professional voice mic [contact Distance Learning for equipment]
2. Prepare “script” for each slide
Plan what you want to say
3. Use existing PowerPoint recording feature
4. If uploading to web, convert to better format

3

Slide 4

Open Record Sound box

Open PowerPoint presentation and go to the first slide you wish to narrate.
On the Insert tab, in the Media Clips group, click the Sound arrow [the little down-arrow], and then click Record Sound.

4

Slide 5

Record for this Slide

In the Record Sound dialog box, enter a name for the recording in the Name box
Click the Record button [the button with brown circle] to begin recording.

Click the Stop button [button with square] when finished.

5

Slide 6

Listen & Save

Listen to the recording by clicking the Play button [button with brown triangle].
If you don’t like what you hear, you can click Cancel and use Play to record again.
When you are satisfied, click OK.
A small audio icon will appear on the slide [which can be moved to any location desired – like the bottom right corner.]

6

Slide 7

Repeat and Test

Go to the next slide, open Record Sound, and record. Repeat for each slide.
Test the narration by running the presentation in Slide Show view.
If you are not satisfied with the narration for a particular slide, you can click on the little sound icon and delete it, and then record the narration again.
Your students will need speakers or headphones, and may need to click
a sound icon to play the audio narrative.

Slide 8

Upload to Web Location

PowerPoints with audio will be very large & difficult for students to download and view
Post to SlideBoom – size limit 30 MB
Can add link or embed in WebCT
Distance Learning Dept [Kate] can also convert with Impatica and place into WebCT course
