Which color light goes though fog easier? Caden Bankhead Period:4
Background information and introduction to this project Light is electromagnetic radiation of a wavelength that is visible to the human eye Light, which exists in tiny "packets" called photons, exhibits properties of both waves and particle The light goes shorter distance in the fog.
Problem or question Which color light passes though fog best?
Hypothesis If I shine different color lights in the fog, then one of them will shine the brightest.
Materials that I use Laptop Projector Fog machine Fog juice Tape measure Light meter Digital camera And a notebook
How long did it take to complete one trial of this experiment and could I finish at least four trials? All of the trials took about one night. I finished four trials.
How many trials did I think I would need to perform to achieve accurate data and what was the control for my experiment? It took about four trials to get accurate data. The control was testing the light with no fog.
What is the independent variable and what is the dependent variable? Independent variable is the color of the light. The dependent variable is the distance the light travels.
What were my controlled variables and what was I measuring? My controlled variable is the projector and the fog machine. I was measuring the light distance and brightness.
How was i measuring? I measured with a digital lux meter.
What background information do I know about this idea? Well I know how to use a laptop and a projector and a fog machine and all of the other things. I know that light is hard to see in fog. I know that fog lights on a truck are usually yellow.
DETAILED step-by-step procedure for conducting this experiment Step 1: Set up laptop, fog machine, and projector in a garage. Step 2: Turn on fog machine until you can see nothing. Step 3: Turn off lights. Step 4: Turn on projector and project a color. Step 5: Measure every one foot from the projector. Step 6: Check light level every one foot from the projector. Step 7: And then record the data. Step 8: Change color and do steps four though seven again with every color.

Green light in fog and without
Purple light in fog and without
Red light in fog and without
Yellow light in fog and without
Pictures of the light shown from the projector to the light meter
Pictures of me running the experiment
Color formulas Blue = R 52 / G 74 / B 150 Green = R 104 / G 175 / B 37 Purple = R 177 / G 83 / B 151 Red = R 228 / G 37 / B 34 Yellow = R 243 / G 229 / B 0 Keys R=Red G=Green B=Blue
Data analysis Yellow went the farthest. Yellow was also the brightest Green was the second brightest color. Green and blue went the same distance. Red was the dimmest color. Red went the least distance
Conclusion Yellow is the best color for going through fog. That is why they have yellow fog lights on cars and trucks.
