WHAT IS A BEVERAGE ?

A BEVERAGE is a drink specifically prepared for human consumption

This does not include water as its a natural resource.

Beverages almost always largely consist of water.

There are different types of beverages but they are mainly classified based on their properties and ingredients.

Broadly there are two types of beverages

TWO TYPES OF BEVERAGES Alcoholic Beverages and Non-Alcoholic Beverages

Alcoholic Beverage

Alcoholic beverages are fermented from the sugars in fruits, berries, grains, and such other ingredients as plant saps, tubers, honey, and milk and may be distilled to reduce the original watery liquid to a liquid of much greater alcoholic strength.

EXAMPLES OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES

BEER Beer is the best-known member of the malt family of alcoholic beverages, which also includes ale, stout, porter, and malt liquor.

Wine is fermented from grape juice and comes in white, red or pink varieties. WINE

Spirits can be made from any organic substance that can be fermented to create alcohol. SPIRITS

Non-alcoholic Beverage

A non-alcoholic beverage is a beverage that contains no alcohol. Non-alcoholic mixed drinks (including punches, "virgin cocktails", or "mocktails") are often consumed by children, people whose religion restricts alcohol consumption, recovering alcoholists, and anyone wishing to enjoy flavorful drinks without alcohol.

EXAMPLES OF NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES

PUNCH A beverage of fruit juices and sometimes a soft drink or carbonated water, often spiced and mixed with a wine or liquor base.

The two types of beverages can be then further classified

COFFEE a brewed beverage prepared from roasted seeds, commonly called coffee beans

TEA Any of various beverages, made as by steeping the leaves of certain plants or by extracting an infusion especially from beef.

CHOCOLATE A beverage made by mixing cocoa powder with sugar in hot water or milk.

COLD BEVERAGES

FRUIT JUICE A beverage made from squeezing out the fruit juices.

ICED TEA is a form of cold tea, often served in a glass with ice.
