Periodontal disease begins with the gingivitis and progresses to the deterioration of the underlying support of the teeth through the accumulation of plaque and bacteria.

Is the earliest stage of gum disease. It can consist of red swollen bleeding gums with some tenderness upon chewing.
Gingivitis is reversable.
