Please have this slide up for the whole time while I’m saying the script below. Please move to the next slide when I get to the end of the script below, i.e. when I’ve said “Let’s look first at the concept of rightERP.org.uk………”
Hello and welcome to rightERP.org.uk. My name is TK. I have an MBA from UC Berkeley and, for 2 years, I was on the doctoral program at Harvard Business School. I have spent over 30 years as a management consultant based in the UK with several global consultancies. Since its conception, I have been CEO of rightERP.org.uk, preparing the operation for launch, managing and developing it.
In this e-Presentation, I will introduce you to the concept and principles of rightERP.org.uk and walk you speedily through the Web 2.0 platform.
The original concept was developed in Israel. That platform is now in its third year of operation and has proven very successful. When I was first introduced to the platform, I was enthused. That enthusiasm grew since, having ‘cloned’ the platform creating rightERP.org.uk; we reviewed the beta version with many marketeers from UK companies and members of our Advisory Board, each of whom thought it a great idea. We’ve now gathered content, populated the platform and have recently launched rightERP.org.uk.
Let’s look first then at the objective of rightERP.org.uk………
~
Slide 3
The objective of rightERP is to
~
Slide 4
Help you improve the performance of your organisation through improved computing and operational support, and to do this in a manner which is easy, quick and effective for you.
The concept is to do this by providing two key things:
The first is
~
Slide 5
a practical and accessible knowledge base of material and potential solutions.
The second is
~
Slide 6
a Web 2.0 platform for all key parties. That is, one that is highly interactive, with key parties able to communicate with each other, directly and speedily.
By all key parties we mean the three key communities:
~
Slide 7
Users & managers in organisations
~
Slide 8
Analysts, consultants and academics, and
~
Slide 9
Practical experts from vendors and system integrators.
So, rightERP.org.uk is a Web 2.0 platform developed by industry specialists to enable users and managers in organisations, analysts, consultants, academics and experts from vendors and systems integrators to:
interact directly
exchange views
present solutions and
inform users & managers to better address business needs & challenges.
~
Slide 10
I’d like now to emphasise the key principles behind our operation – these can be thought of as our core values or ways of working……
We have five key principles or values that drive everything we do with rightERP. These are:
~
Slide 11
Firstly, our objective is to help you to improve your knowledge and the performance of your organisation through whatever means available. Thus we are very much business, not just technology, focussed.
~
Slide 12
Our second principle is that a key focus of the platform is interaction between the parties I’ve just mentioned. We wish to facilitate collaboration. We encourage direct interaction, with no middlemen or gatekeepers – a genuinely Web 2.0 environment.
~
Slide 13
Our third principle is that we emphasise involvement by users and managers in the platform and on the Advisory Board. We encourage you to become involved, to share your experience and knowledge
~
Slide 14
Our fourth principle is effective and efficient access. We organise, categorise and present the information in the platform to give you speedy and effective access to the knowledge and solutions that you desire.
~
Slide 15
And our fifth and final principle is that, in our dealings with you, a visitor to rightERP, we believe in openness and transparency, but we also believe in total confidentiality. There is no need to register until you wish to interact or receive our weekly newsletter. And no information about your personal activity as a visitor to the platform is provided to any third party.
~
Slide 16
Let’s now look at how the platform works….
I will take you through the platform in a few moments. I’ll introduce you to it here.
~
In essence there are 3 key elements to the platform
~
Slide 17
– knowledge, solutions and interactions.
~
Slide 18
Knowledge comprises a host of material on a host of topics that can help you to improve your understanding and can help you to improve the performance of your organisation. (You will see the ‘Learn More’ topics that are currently on the platform in a moment. This base of topics will expand.) For each of those topics we have articles, analysts’ views, case studies, designated experts, relevant glossary items and e-Presentations.
The second key element to the platform is
~
Slide 19
Solutions. A solution to us is any way in which you can help to improve the performance of your organisation – be this through adoption of new software, revised processes or ways of working, new methodologies, new technology or any combination of those. We provide six ‘solution maps’, or ‘ways in’ to the solutions to help you find what you want as quickly as possible. We also provide a ‘wizard’ to help you identify potential software solutions, with an appropriate balance between speed and detail.
The third key element to the platform is
~
Slide 20
Interactions. The facility on this platform for a registered visitor to undertake interactions is what makes it Web 2.0. This is a major contributor to the platform’s effectiveness. The platform includes
an experts’ forum that comprises all of the designated experts. Subject to the rules of the forum, any registered visitor can ask any question they wish of the forum. Answers from the relevant expert or experts are displayed on the forum.
The platform also includes discussion groups or blogs, each of which is on a relevant subject and is lead by one of our experts. Subject to the rules of the discussion groups, any registered visitor can participate in any discussion group.
And we produce a weekly newsletter that goes to registered visitors.
Now let’s move on to the speedy walkthrough of the platform. The structure of this walkthrough will be as

Now let’s move on to the speedy walkthrough of the platform. The structure of this walkthrough will be as shown on this slide.
~
Slide 22
We will first look at the layout of the Home Page.
~
Slide 23
We’ll then look at – what’s called on the platform – Learn More from experts. This covers the knowledge and interactions elements.
~
Slide 24
Then we’ll look at how to find potential solutions for a particular need – Solution Maps and the ‘wizard’
~
Slide 25
And finally we’ll come back to the Home Page and look at About Us, registering, logging in and navigating around the platform
Now go to walkthrough of the site with shots of the site. Then come back here for the last slide
Slide 26
Across the top and down the left of the Home Page (and every other page on the platform) are navigation keys. We’ll return to those later.
Underneath the top set of navigation keys we see the objective of the platform.
Through the centre of the Home Page we see some key recent articles or highlighted recent additions to the platform with the respective photograph.
At the top right we have a search box, beneath which is a facility to inform a friend and beneath that is a scrolling ‘ News and Events’ section.
Beneath the navigation keys on the left is the list of the current ‘Learn More’ topics and next to that in the centre of the Home Page is the ‘wizard’ that helps you to find potential software solutions. Beneath that are more recent articles and recent additions to the platform.
At the foot of this and every page is the Terms of Use of the platform. It is assumed that every visitor to the platform has read and agreed to these Terms of Use.
We now move on to look at
~
Slide 27
Learn More from experts, which covers the knowledge and interactions elements of the platform.
We get to this section of the platform by clicking on the second navigation button on the left, marked “Learn More”.
When you click on that button you see icons arranged in a matrix. These cover the Learn More topics that were listed beneath the navigation keys on the left on the Home Page. Each of these topics can help you to improve the performance of your organisation. As I said earlier, the topics included here will increase.
The structure within each of these topics is identical. Let’s take Business Intelligence as an example. The first link takes us to articles, analysts’ views and case studies on this topic. The second link takes us to e-Presentations on this topic, which look like this one, etc.
We now move on to look at
~
Slide 28
how to find potential solutions for a particular need. We’ll look first at the Solution Maps and then at the ‘wizard’ that helps you find potential software solutions.
We get to the Solution Maps by clicking on the third navigation button on the left-hand side of the page, entitled “SOLUTION MAPS”. There you see six Solution Maps, which are ‘ways in’ to the solutions to help you find what you want as quickly as possible.
You can get to the ‘wizard’ that helps you identify potential software solutions by clicking on the first navigation button on the left-hand side of the page. This wizard was designed to provide an appropriate balance between speed and detail in finding potential software solutions. I’ll take a moment now to walk you through this wizard.
Let’s say you are interested in the Finance function and Document Management. On the ‘Functions of interest’ tab, you click on those two and then click ‘Continue’. You are then presented with a standard set of sub-functions within each of those functions and you de-select those in which you are not interested, say loans and storage. You click ‘continue’ and are asked on the second tab to please provide some key statistics regarding your organisation – primary sector, company structure, etc. When you then click ‘continue’ you receive, for confirmation, a summary of the information you have entered. You can also then choose to receive solutions that match at least one of your sub-functions of interest or all of them.
When you then click on continue you receive a matrix of resulting potential solutions.
Clicking on the button under the ‘Fit’ column for any solution leads you to a display of the fit between your requirements and what that solution offers. Let’s take CODA. If you hover over an ‘i’ icon for a function, you’ll see the distinctive functionality that that solution provides there. After your requirements, you’ll see that the other functionality that that solution offers is listed
Clicking on the button under the ‘Introduction’ column for any solution leads you to introductory text on that solution and its implementer. Let’s take QAD. After the explanation of the solution and the company, you’ll find other solutions provided by that company
Clicking on the button under the ‘Implementers’ column for any solution leads you to a display of Implementers of that solution. Let’s take NetSuite.
Clicking on the button under the ‘More info’ column for any solution leads you to a pop-up where you can ask for this company to contact you (in which case you will need to enter some simple ID information and we will then forward that to the company by email) or you can indicate that you do not want this company to contact you (in which case you will be directed to the library of their marketing material that they have left on the platform). Let’s take IFS.
We now return to
~
Slide 29
the Home Page and look first at About us. There we see again the objective of the platform, this time in a little more detail. We are also introduced to the Advisory Board of rightERP.
A visitor to the platform is required to register if they wish to interact with the platform, i.e. to ask a question of the Experts’ Forum, to become involved in a Discussion Group or to receive the Newsletter. A minimal amount of information is required to register. If more is offered, rightERP can service that visitor’s needs more effectively.
Logging-in once registered is very simple, with passwords remembered.
The other navigation buttons along the top and down the side of each page facilitate access to particular parts of the knowledge base, for example Blogs / Discussion Groups. What they access will be evident from their title.
In conclusion
