How should government Funding be allocated to schools? Presented, written and narrated by Despina Frederikos
Federal Government being the head of Australian parliament covers most of the funding for independent(privet) and catholic schools. How is school funding allocated at this present time ? At the present time the funding is allocated by the Federal Government And State government, Through Fee tuitions, Donations And Government Grants Australia has six states and two territories. Each has their own government, called the State Government. The state government falls beneath the federal government and they all have an educational department. In some of the states and territories the state government or educational department allocates the funds to schools.
The Budget...? According to the budget Review the total spending for both state and non state schools 2007-2008 was 41.4 billion dollars. Funds are currently given to the schools based on their socio economics of the schools surrounding area and an amount that is allocated to the funding of each student. Funding amount for each student varies. Depending what the students background is and if they have additional needs . Thus if a student is from a torris state islander or aboriginal background their education is fully funded . Extra funding is provided to assist students with additional needs. Students with additional needs get a substantial increase in the amount of the funding the school is provided for that student. This is to pay for extra staff and resources they may need for the student.
Percentage funding from each Provision 3.00 billion dollars
According to recent Studies in the field of educational funding Australia’s track record shows that the amount of funding is not suciffient enough to have enough to fund the amount of school to student ratio. Compared to countries like America, The UK and European countries who allocate high funds to their educational system. We lack. Though if the government was to follow suit with some the countries mentioned above our Educational system for funding and schooling may become as well recognised as some of the more acclaimed schooling systems that are currently recognised internationally for their achievements in this field. Government funding should be allocated through a system that combines the federal, state money for any public schooling in Australia together. This responsibility should be placed upon a committee that is employed for this purpose only. It should then look at each schools socio economics, infrastructure, staff pay, resources and program funding they need or want and then any funding they need for individual students according to background or additional needs. Government funding for independent schools(privet) and catholic schools should be fund through reports and assessments on the schools income , student parental income, in-school additional programs and student additional needs. Infrastructure updating or additional buildings should be funded through government grants. A committee dedicated to this would have the necessary documentation from individual schools to asses how much funding is need for their school taking in to consideration any of the below reasons. School income Students parental income In-school additional programs Student additional needs this includes students of torris state or aboriginal backgrounds. How should funds be allocated?
