The garden is a partner effort between Ms. Powell (art teacher), the Culinary Arts Program, and the Green Team Purposes of creating the garden: to provide staff and students a peaceful place for quiet reflection to educate students about the importance of sustainability to teach students about gardening to grow food that will be used by the Culinary Arts students in providing meals for the school community DSS Centennial Garden
Promote environmental awareness by giving presentations to several Ladner elementary schools Our most recent presentation was for kindergarteners at Holly Elementary Provides an opportunity for secondary students to take on a leadership role and to practise public speaking BC Hydro: Energy Ambassadors “They were really bright, enthusiastic, and adorable!” EN-ER-GY!

To expose students to the leading edge alternative green technologies available, DSS Automotive have constructed an electric drag racing vehicle. The Prototype was made from a 1989 Toyota Pick up Truck, donated to the school due to a non-functioning motor. Students have regularly worked on the extensive project and just yesterday, it was displayed in the school foyer. Green Teams are not the only ones who strive for a more sustainable environment; other departments can also be the source of inspiration and promote our green cause. Pink Mountain Provincial Park is located in Northern B.C. (near the Alaska Highway) Home to a unique oasis amidst bare rock containing a high concentration of rare tundra plants, which attract many even rarer Arctic butterflies The protected area is NOT the area with the rare plants and animals, but an area of bare rock There are new plans to install wind farms atop this mountain, which would completely destroy this precious habitat Our Newest Initiative
