Introduction TO Proposal As citizens of America I would like to think that we would want to live in a country that not only talks the talk but also walks the walks. We current have a Budget Deficit of $401.04 billion dollars. Basically that is saying that we spend more than we actually make! My goal is to reach a Budget Surplus and in order to achieve this goal I will have to make a lot of cuts to different departments. I am looking for the support of not only my policy makers but the people who these cuts will affect as well!

Priorities for Upcoming Budget The first thing that needs to be done is the analyzing of each program and their program and their financial status; which programs are suffering from lack of funding and which programs are doing exceptionally well? These programs are usually the programs that are receiving the most money from the federal government. After reviewing the current deficit as well as the spending limits to each department I’ve decided that in order to reach a budget surplus we are going to have to cut back on departments that are receiving not a lot but too much federal funding. The two biggest cut backs I’ve made are in Military Spending as well as Social Security. As far as the Military goes, we as a country is spending too much money on our Military needs. We have already established the title as “The World’s Power House.” China, and Japan who happens to be our main competitors do not spend a quarter of what we spend on military expenses. Below is a graph of worldwide Military Spending:

Priorities continued As a country who is now suffering from a recessions in terms of jobs, I believe it is very important at this time to focus on training, labor and unemployment as well as Education. I know Health care has been a big topic of late in terms of spending but because of the dept I think as for right now cuts need to be made in that department as well. I will like to say these cuts are not permanent but I believe they will help this country get back on her feet.

What I’ve learned I had to play with the percentages a lot before I got a “congratulations”. I believe this was the case because I was very timid in apply big cuts onto certain departments such as Military Spending and Social Security even though those departments were receiving the most money. The reason I was so timid is because I’ve grown up in a society that states Military is a must and is very important so is Social Security and I agree with this belief but at the same time if a country is in depth because of those spending's something has to be done! I believe this was an excellent exercise that taught me the dynamics behind government spending and the budget on a whole.
