Attitude in the Workplace By Darci Stanford Rasmussen Online College ECE program
Attitude Indicator
Ask yourself… Does an individual’s attitude dictate his/her performance? Does he/she have an “attitude indicator” that continually evaluates his perspective and achievements in life? What happens when the attitude is dictating undesirable traits? How can the attitude be changed? And, if the attitude changes, what are the ramifications to other people around him?
Think about…. What is an attitude & why is it important? What are the necessary ingredients for a high-performance attitude? What causes an attitude to become negative, disappointing? How can a wrong attitude that is working against us be turned around to work for us?
Ask yourself… Have I checked my attitude lately? How would I rate my attitude? Never been better Never been worse Nose-high Nose-down What is an attitude indicator in my life (something which reflects my perspective)?
Attitude living is making a conscious effort to understand where our attitude currently is and how it is impacting our life right now at this moment in time. Taking a look in the mirror and understanding that our attitude is our choice.
What is Attitude? “The attitude is an inward feeling expressed by behavior.” That is why an attitude can be seen without a word being said Attitude is often expressed by our body language Attitude is contagious Attitude can be ‘masked’ outwardly Soon what is happening within us will affect what is happening outside of us
Effects of attitude A hardened attitude is like a dreaded disease A positive mind causes growth
What is an attitude? It is the “advance man” of our true selves. Its roots are inward but its fruit is outward. It is our best friend or our worst enemy. It is more honest and more consistent than our words. It is an outward look based on past experiences. It is a thing which draws people to us or repels them. It is never content until it is expressed. It is the librarian of our past. It is the speaker of our present. It is the prophet of our future.
Attitude Axioms An axiom is a saying
Axiom #1 Our attitude determines our approach to life
Limburger Cheese
Axiom #2 Our attitude determines our relationships with people. Stanford research says that the money you make in any endeavor is determined by only 12.5 percent by knowledge and 87.5 percent by your ability to deal with people.
Teddy Roosevelt said “The most important single ingredient to the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people.”
Axiom #3 Often our attitude is the only difference between success and failure
Axiom #4 Our attitude at the beginning of a task will affect its’ outcome more than anything else.
Axiom #5 Our attitude can turn our problems into blessings
Axiom #6 Our attitude can give us an uncommonly positive perspective

Teammates must be able to count on each other when it counts.
Formula for Countability. Character + Competence +Commitment + Consistency + Cohesion = Countability
Becoming a Better Team Member Is your integrity unquestioned (character)? Do you perform your work with excellence (competence)? Are you dedicated to the team’s success (commitment)? Can you be depended on every time (consistency)? Do you’re actions bring the team together (cohesion)?
Remember… Develop pride in group membership Convince your group that they are the best Give recognition whenever possible Encourage organizational mottos, names, symbols, and slogans 5. Establish your group’s worth by examining and promoting its history and values 6. Focus on the common purpose 7. Encourage your people to participate in activities together outside of work 8. The more of these activities you embrace the greater the ‘countability’ you will develop
How will you become a better team member?
Do you feel the world is treating you well? If your attitude toward the world is excellent, you will receive excellent results. If you feel so-so about the world, your response from that world will be average. Feel badly about your world and you will seem to have only negative feedback from life. John Maxwell
