1st Type (related to probability) FORM If+ present simple, will + infinitive If I don’t study, I won’t pass. *If … not= Unless Unless you come to my party, I’ll be really bored USE Possible or probable future events I won’t pass if I don’t study. If you don't come to my party, I'll be really bored
2nd Type FORM If +past simple, would + infinitive If I/he/ she were rich, I would live in Hollywood. (formal language) USE Imaginary or improbable situations in present or future She would live in Hollywood if she were rich. If I were you, I wouldn't smoke.
3rd TYPE FORM If + past perfect, would have + past participle. If I had listened to my parents, I wouldn't have failed. USE Events that did not happen.
SUMMARY 1st : Possible events If you lose this money, I' ll be angry. 2nd : Imaginary or improbable events If you lost this money, I would be angry. 3rd : Impossible past events If you had lost this money, I would have been angry.
