Helping Animals in Our Community-Starting Right Here From Our Neighborhood Rosa Coreas Kassandra J. Garcia 1st Semester

Mission Statement Our mission is to help animals from our community have a better life. Some people are cruel to animals and our goal is to reduce that. Our mission is to protect and respect animals as they are: companions, not playthings that one could throw away or mistreat, to help reduce animal cruelty and to help raise awareness of animal adoption process. To make our mission reality, we will work with animal shelters, including the pounds, and the Houston SPCA, and other branches of animal shelters.

What is the Houston SPCA? The Houston SPCA, founded in 1924, is Houston’s first and largest animal protection organization and shelter.

How Do They Receive Money? It is a private, non-profit charity, funded entirely by donations, no funding from Government, United Way, or any other national animal group.

Animal Cruelty Dog fighting and cock-fighting are illegal in all 50 states A fur coat is pretty cool-for an animal to wear. Eighteen red foxes are killing to make one fox-fur coat, 55 minks to make a mink coat. Scientists estimate that 100 species extinct every day! That’s about one species every 15 minutes.

Animal Cruelty (Cont.) Tens of thousands of wild and domesticated horses from the United States are cruelly slaughtered every year to be used for horsemeat in European and Asia. Since the last horse slaughter plants in the U.S. were closed in 2007, thousands of horses have been shipped to Canada and Mexico for slaughter. Neglect and abandonment are the most common forms of companion animal abuse in the United States

Animal Cruelty (Cont.) More than 15 million warm-blooded animals are used in research every year. Many studies have found a link between cruelty to animals and other forms of interpersonal violence

Fundraising

M&M Contest People had to guess how many M&Ms were in the jar. This is the first fundraiser we did. We kept this contest going for two weeks. Winner: Joaquin Mendoza

Selling Pizza! Our second fundraiser was to sell pizza on Mondays and Tuesdays after school. We also sold CapriSun and chips. We made a large amount of profit from this, it was our best fundraiser.

Houston SPCA at our school! Susan Skelley, a worker of the Humane Education from HSPCA, came to our school and did a presentation about what the HSPCA does and about how to report animal abuse and other cases. Susan Skelley’s Presentation Video1 Video2 Video3 Video4

THE DOG SHOW! This was our big finale! We gathered the people who wanted to show off their pets, and made a small Dog Show for them! There were eight categories: Best Small Dog Best Medium Dog Best Large Dog Best Trick Best Outfit Best Look Alike Best Pair Best Behaved

At the end of hard work We managed to raise $309.21 Which it will be donated to the Houston SPCA
