There are three main types of cyber dangers. The first being Cyber Bullying, the second being Online Predators, and the third being Cyber Crime.

What is Cyber Bullying? The best definition I found for cyber bullying was from the Stop Cyber Bullying Website. Their definition for cyber bullying was, “When a student is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed and otherwise targeted by another child using the internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phone. With increased technology we are experiencing more and more of this everyday. Later on in this presentation I will talk about how to avoid and help prevent Cyber Bullying.

Predators establish contact with kids through conversations in chat rooms, instant messaging, e-mail, or discussion boards. Many teens use peer support online forums to deal with their problems. Predators often go to these online areas to look for vulnerable victims. Online predators try to gradually seduce their targets through attention, affection, kindness, and even gifts, and often devote considerable time, money, and energy to this effort. They're aware of the latest music and hobbies likely to interest kids. They listen to and sympathize with kids' problems. They also try to ease young people's inhibitions by gradually introducing sexual content into their conversations or by showing them sexually explicit material. Some predators work faster than others, engaging in sexually explicit conversations immediately. This more direct approach may include harassment or stalking. Predators may also evaluate the kids they meet online for future face-to-face contact. How to know if someone is at risk? Ask yourself these question; Are they spending large amounts of time on the computer or more than normal? Is there pornography on their computer? Do they quickly turn off the monitor or switch websites when you enter the room? Have they become withdrawn? These are all signs to look for if you are afraid someone is at risk…
