Introduction: Etiopathogenesis: contagious dermatitis caused by Sarcoptes scabiei variety canis. It’s a very important disease to the public’s health because it is a zoonosis. It’s a procces that causes itching, alopecia, observed crusted papules and erythematous lesions There are often thick crusts and erosions by scratching

Characteristics of the parasite: Measure from 200 to 280 microns. Morphology: oval, it has short legs that ends in suction cups to catch the host.

Characteristics of the parasite: It affects mainly ventral areas, elbows and ears They dig galleries within the epidermis. The cicle’s life lasts 10 to 14 days

Epidemiology: The disorder occurs worldwide can occur at any time of year This parasites can survive outside the host until 19 days The incidence depends on contact with infected animals, fomites such as higienic utensils, among others.

Epidemiology There is no predisposition according to age, race or sex. Although the demostration always starts in areas with less hair can be widespread and affect large areas of the body.

Clinical case: A non_neutered male Samoyed, 3 years old, was presented whit intense itching and scratching during the consult. It was also lethargic, and showed erythema, alopecia, crusts and scaling.

Anamnesis : The pruritus started two months ago Enviroment and management of dog not changed at that time also. It was in contact with other dogs. The dog was lethargic and depressed. There wasn´t zoonosis.

Anamnesis : At first pruritus responded to oral prednisolone And even systemic antibiotic treatment for 7 days produced no effect. The flea control was sporadic.

Diagnosis: Diagnosis is sarcoptic scabies and secondary pyoderma, according to the results obtained from skin scrapings and cytology

Options of treatment: Amitraz: as a topical preparation. It is applied every 7 days for 2-6 weeks. It is recommended to shave long-haired animals before applying the product. It’s contraindicated in chihuahuas, puppies and dogs sukling. Ivermectin: it may gives orally or subcutaneously. It’s contraindicated in some breeds, such as Collie. Baths with acaricides. It’s recommended to clean the environmet and wash the floor with a miticide.

Forecast: Generally the prognosis of this condition is very good as long as there is no source that can cause reinfestation.

Treatment in this case: Amitraz baths every week for 6 weeks Injections of ivermectin. Secondary infection produced by Stafilococo (pyoderma) was resolved by treatment with cephalexin for six weeks (20 mg / kg).
