Our school is the place where we can face and solve problems, where we can experience new ideas, and find simple answers to questions, but above all… it’s the place where we can make really exciting experiences!

WELL D NE Mario Ceroli was born in Castel Frentano on the 17th May , 1938. He was an Italian sculptor and designer. In the sixties, impressed by the Pop art came to the materials and forms that would characterize his later creations in wood, colorless, sometimes repeated in series, connected to a space that becomes the essential theme. His sculptures often quote from famous works of the past, like the “Vitruvian Man” by Leonardo da Vinci. In 1997 he donated to the country of origin, Castel Frentano, a copy of the Vitruvian Man placing a wooden sculpture in the square of the Immaculate Conception.

San Rocco What’s the most important church in Castel Frentano? Assunta Santo Stefano

Slide 9

.   WELL DONE! Nothing is known of the period of construction but the first records date back to the XVI century. The facade is brick. The entrance to the church is in Baroque style. The interior has a single nave with barrel vault with lunettes and a dome at the end. There is a polychrome wood sculpture, dating from the fifteenth century, representing the Virgin enthroned with Child Blessing. The celebration of the Assumption is on August 16th of each year with the holy procession. It does not betray the religious sentiment, rooted in centuries of devotion to Our Lady. The Virgin has an human expression of pain during childbirth and with divine joy of the Assumption into heaven.

1) THE DETAILS REFER TO THE SAME BUILDING. WHAT DO YOU THINK IT IS? A SCHOOL A THEATRE A POST OFFICE

Slide 11

In Castel Frentano, our town, there’s a theatre, its structure is little and inviting. Its name is dedicated to two characters who used to compose plays about local characters and events, showing their everday life in a very funny way. The building that hostes the teatre belongs to one of the oldest local families: the Cavacini’s. You can find the theatre at the historic centre, the most ancient place in town. People who live in Castel Frentano can boast about an ancient theatrical tradition and they’ve always been looking for an appropriate place to put up the plays. There have been many companies, they were composed by people of the place, acting for charity. So the theatre represents a place that promotes, favours and develops different types of cultural enterprise. Still now as it used to be in the past, the theatre is at school’s disposal, the students have been playing several plays, paying attention to the ancient tradition.

Sant’Eusanio del Sangro Scuola Media “Cesare de Titta “ Our school is quite old in fact its front wall is full of legends. Many years ago people said it was a blessed wall. They believed it could cure rheumatism and so they had the habit of touching it. Today the wall belongs to the town hall. At first the whole building was the seat of the municipality. Later, in the 90s, it was enlarged in order to become a school. Initially there were six classes. Today we are only three classes. In the school there are also a multimedia laboratory room, an Art room, a library, a conference room and a staff room.

Slide 13

Maria Santissima Assunta Our Lady of the Assumption At first the Church was only a very small chapel. Then people decided to pull it down and make it bigger. To do this stones were picked up on the river Sangro that flows near the village. During the works a painting of Our Lady of the Assumption was discovered. The image of the Virgin Mary hang above the main altar

TRY AGAIN Sant’Eusanio del Sangro Sant’Eusanio del Sangro is only the name of our village but initially its name was Monteclo. The legend states that Eusanio was a short man and the priest of the town of Siponto, near Foggia,in Puglia (South Italy). Once he was travelling in our region and during his journey he met two people who began to laugh at him. So S.Eusanio turned those men into statues and then he continued his journey up to a small village now called Sant’Eusanio Forconese near L’Aquila (center Italy). He lived there and died on 9th July in the church of Santa Maria delle Monache.

Today the old fountain “Assiuni” is only a memory for the old people. In fact in the ‘60s it was destroyed and it was recently rebuilt. In the past it was a refreshment stand for many people. On the wall there are some lines of a local poet called Cesare De Titta. Initially the water that came out was wasted. But in 1953 two baths, connected to each other, were added. Fontevecchia, which in English means “old fountain”, is a fountain situated in a valley. This was the first important fountain in our territory. Today the water isn't drinkable any more. Fountain Villa Rosato is connected with a bigger aqueduct. The unused water was firstly collected in a bath and used to wash clothes or by animals. It was built in 1907 near the cemetery. The water is still drinkable. The “vallone”, which in English means “Big Valley”, is a natural place located near our village. Now only a stream flows there but in the past probably it was a river bed. Unfortunately, it is not a protected place so it is not very clean. It is a place full of typical Mediterranean vegetation such as : the mauve , the fungus and the olive trees.
