EXCITING, SUSTAINABLE STYLE The global financial crisis, natural catastrophes, an excess of products and information are causing people to stop and reflect on their current lifestyle. The new consumer landscape is characterized by quality, longevity, sustainability and significance. The task is to create a lasting emotional and functional relationship between the object and its user. This is going to be a year of Sustainable Style, where recyclable materials, fabrics and natural colors will get a facelift. Although the need to run back to all things natural will be still dominating the world of design, artist and designers will spend extra time developing new and more sophisticated techniques to add quality finishes to the end product. At DegreeArt.com we strive to see the bigger picture, therefore we build our style reports based on both, Creative Trends (fashion, art, design) and World Issues (lifestyle trends, politics)

EMOTIONAL TAILORING In the search for the essence of things, designers & artists will go back to using classic and established forms that will be equipped with new functions and will be produced from sustainable materials of the highest quality. This playful mix of new technologies and the piecing together of old and new details are suggestive of the desire to dismantle and re-arrange, breathing in new life to the heavily consumerised ‘vintage’ and ‘retro’ styles. There will be a focus on recycling of not only materials and products, but also our ideas and creativity. The line between the worlds of fashion and art is being erased, eg. bathroom tiles inspiring jewellery collaborations, designers turning to science to find new ways of integrating materials into fabric, and science turning to artists to inspire innovation and technological development. Materials: Wood, Leather, Felt and Plant Fibers are complemented by Technical Fabrics Colours: Lush & Pale shades of Green, Powder Shades of Rose and Earthy Browns with a dash of Citrus Yellow Inspiration: Structure, Origami, Pleated and folded detailing of Triangles and Pyramids, 3D effects.

MADHOUSE Year in and out fashion designers created dreamy, lace overloaded, almost childlike cloths, to infuse our lives with romance and sunshine. Interior designers armed with whites and natural earthy colours coat every room to create calm and safe sanctuaries. Now ‘White is over’ and nothing is what it seems, combining colours and patterns with abandon. MADHOUSE clearly shows how tradition is being turned on its head and stylised ethnic influences from all over the world meet with novel patterns, prints and fabrics. High-tech and low-tech come together in the multi-layering of kitschy trash and valuables. Materials: Feathers, Fur, Woven Light Flowing Structures, Minerals, Glass, Metal Fabrics Colours: Cold Grey, Gold, Black, brightened up with vibrant dashes of Orange. Dark Plum-Blue provides the dominant background for both an artificial Lavender shade and a Dove-Grey with a violet shimmer. Important features are emphasized in Metallic Gold shades. Inspiration: Light, Pop Art, Burlesque, Mythology, Taxidermy

Minimal Luxury and Sobriety This stands for simplicity, accessibility and an invitation to use. The new reinterpretation of classic design of the 1950s reflects a style, which symbolises honesty, quality and consistency, evoking nostalgia and authenticity. The pure, modest and unadorned are celebrated. Clear lines and expressive materials give this modern style its purist character. A few select objects and large surfaces – some shimmering – convey the intrinsic feel. The attractive interplay between refined and rustic underlines the naturalness of the cultivated and inviting ambience. Materials: Untreated materials, Sheep Skin, Wood, Stone Colours: Warm Rhubarb-Red combined with Creamy-White, Corn-Yellow and Tan shades ranging from Light Brown all the way to Terracotta complimented by warm gold shades. Inspiration: Handcraft & Heritage, Classic Shapes, Folk Tales, Family – minded consumer

The essence of exotic landscapes and cultural references allow for an existential experience reminiscent of discovery and textiles. Natural colors and materials occupy the designs; while animal skins, and hand made materials such as tassels, beading, and cut-outs adorn and allow us to tie in human existence with African Landscapes. Geometrical shapes and cut outs juxtapose the digital world in a very indigenous manner. This paradox of patterning seamlessly blends in with the latest contemporary and minimalist interiors, colors and fashion. In this modern world the look of tribal designs creates an exotic dialogue, yet obtains a sophisticated relaxing feeling and environment. Materials: Beads, Feathers, Natural materials, Tassels, hand altered cut outs, body conscious Colours: Animal Skin Prints, Brights earth tones Inspiration: Africa, Desert, Tribal designs, Jungle 10,000 BC

Aquamarine The sky and the sea have finally met in the creations of our clothing and living spaces. Tones of aquamarine are a perfect match for spring and an exceptional transition into summer. The calming tone of blue allows for us to re-embrace the serene and create a space were we can stop time for more than just a moment in our busy lives. Blue accenting, an entire room of Aquamarine, or anything in between is ironically a very warm welcome. Pairing with white allows for a fresh feeling, but always remember to throw in bright colors to ignite a lively tone for your environment or outfit. Materials: leather, fabrics, satin Colors: blue, aquamarine, teal, coral green, sky blue Inspiration: a la plaige, the sky, the serene, corals, clouds
