Background March 2009 – Premier confirmed Ontario’s commitment to co-host OFNEF with Chiefs of Ontario and INAC Purpose: Bring together federal, provincial and First Nations governments to discuss and make recommendations to increase sustainable economic development in Ontario’s First Nations January 2010 – OFNEF hosted in Fort William First Nation Over 350 First Nations, government and economic development leaders took part in this unique gathering

Round Tables Extensive pre-forum planning took place, including several roundtable meetings with co-chairs and the development of framework guidelines to help direct forum discussions The forum focused on three priority areas important for driving First Nations economies: Socio-economic Development Resources Development Relationship/Partnership Development Breakout sessions were held to encourage active participation and to gather as much feedback as possible A full summary report and short video have been prepared that highlight the event and outcomes

Moving Forward Cluster Co-chairs have met to help prepare final Work Plans for each of the three priority areas Technical Working Groups have been created that consist of members from all levels of government and First Nations to continue to push OFNEF recommendations (short, medium and long term) Asking for assistance from EDOs to determine what’s happening in communities, best practices, and areas on which we need to focus
