Earth Faces Critical Environmental Choices According to The UN Environmental Program, Global Society has reached an Environmental Crossroads, where a choice between self-serving greed and the Future of Humanity will decide the fate of millions in the decades to come. Director Klaus Toepfer stated. “Fundamental changes are possible and required.” The GEO-3 Report, before the 2002 Johannesburg Earth Summit, paints a dismal future for the Global Environment unless action is taken now. “The choices made today are critical for the Forests, Oceans, Rivers, Mountains, Wildlife, and other Support Systems upon which current and future generations depend.” In the decade since the Rio Earth Summit, 58 species of fishes have become extinct, 25% of the world’s mammals, and 1 of 8 bird species are on the Critical List. Life-giving forests are being destroyed, fertile soil is disappearing under concrete, or into the sea, and vital waterways are polluted or drying up. Poverty, Hunger, and Sickness rage over the Planet, and Globalization is creating waste and pollution on a Global Scale. Toepfer further stated, “We need a Concrete Action Plan...Concrete Projects... and above all, a Clear Political Declaration.” He continued, “Let us now find the political courage and the innovative financing to implement these deals.” ...Source: Jeremy Lovell, Reuters, 23 May, 2002

GLOBAL WARNING!! Everest & Kilimanjaro Glaciers Melting A recent UNEP scientific expedition to Mt. Everest, discovered that the Glacier where Sir Edmund Hillary set out for his historical climb nearly 50 years ago, has retreated up the Mountain nearly three miles! According to Ohio State University Scientist Lonnie Thompson, recent aerial studies of 19,000-Ft. Mt. Kilimanjaro show it has lost one-third of its Ice Fields in the past 20 years. Thompson thinks that all the ice may disappear by 2015. Recent surveys show that the Quelcaya Ice Cap in the Peruvian Andes has shrunk 20% since 1963. Its largest glacier has accelerated its retreat by 509 feet per year. Glaciers are natural dams that store Snow in the wet season, which melts during the dry season to supply water for the Rivers. …Environment News Service, June 11, 2002; February, 2001.

Soot and Global Warming Stanford University Engineer, Mark Jacobson, claims, “If you want to control Global Warming, the first thing you go after is Soot.” Soot from Diesel Fuel and Wood has a much more significant impact relative to its mass, than do the greenhouse gases Carbon Dioxide and Methane. Eliminating all fossil fuel Soot (5 million tons per year worldwide) would cut Global Warming 40% within 3 to 5 years. Soot Particles warm the air by absorbing sunlight, radiating it back into the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases create warming by absorbing heat and radiating it back into the environment. Removing Soot would thus have a more immediate effect on Temperatures, since Soot remains in the atmosphere for a much shorter time. Most Climate Change Models do not take Soot into account at all; neither was Soot factored into the 1997 Kyoto Protocol. …Reuters: 12 December, 2001

Affluenza If you work longer to pay for things you have less time to enjoy, you may be suffering from the epidemic du jour, “Affluenza.” The problem is, the more you have, the more you want, which creates an addiction that authors John de Graaf, D. Wann, and T. Naylor call, “Viral Overconsumpton.” Although Personal Consumption Expenditures have tripled over the last 50 years, the percentage of people claiming to be “very happy,” has declined by almost 50% since 1973. Social Consequences of Affluenza include increased divorce rates, depression, abortion, substance abuse, and incarceration. Treatments for Affluenza include remedies such as “Voluntary Simplicity,” and reconnecting with the Natural World. …John de Graaf, D. Winn, T. Naylor, 2001, Affluenza,

Passamaquoddy Tidal Power John F. Kennedy believed that harnessing the Tidal Energy at Passamaquoddy Bay near the Eastern US/Canadian Border, would be, “one of the most astonishing & beneficial enterprises undertaken by the people of the US.” Kennedy envisioned transforming the Bay’s huge tidal fluctuations of 70 billion cu. ft. of water into 50,000 KW of Electrical Power. The dream that died with JFK is now being reborn in other parts of the world. In May, 2001, British Parliament declared, “The world can no longer afford to neglect the massive potential of wave & tidal energy.” In June 2001, Washington State passed a bill requiring in-state utilities to begin providing Tidal Power and other forms of Renewable Energy as early as January 1, 2002. …Earth Island Journal, Spring 2002, p. 3.

StarPort A typical Airport consumes up to 500 million gallons of fuel a year…nearly half as much as Auto Traffic in a large city. Airports are responsible for over 50% of the air pollution in large Metropolitan Areas. A taxiing Boeing 747 uses over 500 gal. of fuel…enough to run a car for a year. 1,000 taxi-to-take-offs consume 12 million gallons…enough to power 200,000 cars for a day. Only 4% of the fuel burned goes to move the aircraft; the rest is spewed into the air as Exhaust. An Innovative New Airport Design called, “StarPort” could save 300 million gallons of fuel per airport per year, would occupy only one-third the space, and could yield four times the revenue of conventional airports. The StarPort Design has parallel inclined runways, that uses gravity to slow landing planes and helps them reach takeoff speeds sooner. Runways are wider at touchdown points, and slightly concave, so planes stay centered. Electric Motors pre-rotate wheels before landing, to eliminate Tire Burn and reduce Shock. This, plus the inclined runways, would eliminate the need for noisy 30-second breaking thrusts, that typically burn 300 to 500 gal. of fuel per landing.

Slide 12

A 6,000 ft. runway with a 2% grade, would raise the runway midpoint 120 ft. above the surrounding landscape, so the Central Terminal could be as high as a 10-story building. Typical airport customers endure an average 1.5 mile walk from parking to Departure Gates. StarPort Passengers could travel from underground parking lots directly to Departure Gates in under six minutes (For an airport the size of Denver, this would reduce average curb-to-counter passenger travel by 80%). Runways would be parallel to each other to allow simultaneous takeoffs and landings. This design would reduce taxi distances by 80%. Terminal Space could also include several floors of Parking, Restaurants, Shops, Hotels, and Meeting Spaces. Instead of waiting in long lines at a Single Airport Entrance, the StarPort design would allow traffic to enter and leave the airport in four directions. The reduced area of StarPort Design would allow it to be built on smaller existing urban airport locations, abandoned when larger runways were needed. If the 2,000 new planned airports were of StarPort Design, fuel savings would amount to 2 billion gallons per day: more than 1000 times the amount that could be extracted from the Arctic Wildlife Refuge. …Source: Earth Island Journal, Autumn, 2001, p. 38

Transatlantic Robotic Surgery In the World’s First Complete Long-Distance Surgery, an International Team of Doctors in New York used a Robot to perform Gallbladder Surgery on a patient in Strasbourg, France. Watching the Operation on a computer screen, using tools connected to sensors, Hi-speed signals traveled 4,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean through fiber-optic lines to robots that carried out the NY doctors’ commands. This successful procedure raises possibilities for remote surgery on soldiers wounded on the battlefield, or astronauts in Outer Space. Doctors dubbed the 54-minute procedure, “Operation Lindbergh,” in honor of Charles Lindbergh and his breakthrough Transatlantic Flight. …USA Today, Sept. 20, 2001

Phage Therapy:A New Antibiotic Before Penicillin in the 1940’s, Medical Researchers focused on a different approach to killing Pathogenic Bacteria; Bacteriophage Therapy. “Phages” are Viruses that attack Bacteria. They consist of a DNA-filled head, attached by a Proteinaceous shaft to a set of spidery “legs,” used to attach to the Bacterium. When a Phage attaches to a Bacterium, it injects a batch of Genetic Material inside, which uses the bacterial protoplasm to create daughter copies of itself, until the Bacterium finally ruptures, spewing multitudes of newly-created phage particles into the surrounding environment. Phage Therapy attacks only Target Bacteria, with no harmful effects on normal human cells. With the advent of Antibiotics, Phage Therapy was abandoned in the West. Scientists in Russia and Eastern Europe, however, continued their Research Programs. The appearance of new antibiotic-resistant Bacteria, has renewed interest in Phage Therapy. Doctors have already used it to treat Cholera and Typhoid. Recently, it also was used to successfully treat a Canadian patient suffering from an antibiotic-resistant Bacterial Infection. ...Sources: World Wide, 22 May, 2002; BBC1, 23 May, 2002

Paper from Pond Scum Scientists at the University of Texas in Austin recently discovered that 9 species of Cyanobacteria (some of the oldest organisms on Earth) secrete Cellulose…an essential component for many types of material…including Fabric and Paper. Cellulose is normally extracted from Wood Pulp or Cotton, but Both sources have impurities that are costly to remove. Cyanobacteria, being low on the food chain, are biologically efficient, as they produce Cellulose simply from Sunlight and Water. However, in the Natural Environment they are not yet able to produce it on a Commercial Scale. The Scientists are trying to use Genetic Engineering to increase Cellulose Output to a commercial scale. In the future, this technology might be implemented so that sheets of Cellulose can be skimmed off the surface of algae ponds, thus eliminating the need to harvest Trees for Wood Pulp entirely. …Source: Cliff Ransom, Popular Science, April 2002, p. 30.

Paper from Clay? An Ecologically Friendly, Tree-Free Technology for making Paper from Bentonite Clay was developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology by Dr. Ernst Hauser in the early 1940’s. This unique product, originally called “Alisfilm,” was named for the main constituents of Bentonite Clay, commonly used as a Mud Lubricant in Well Drilling. The finely ground Clay is first suspended in Water, allowing grit and foreign material to settle out. It is then evaporated into a jellylike mass, and chemically treated. The microscopic mineral fibers mat together during the drying process, forming a film similar to ordinary fiber-based papers. Paper produced by this process is waterproof, and ultra-fine in texture, making it ideal for Printing, and for use in Packaging Products. This Dormant Technology, which is elegant in its simplicity, represents an eco-friendly way to reduce the impact of the Paper Industry on the Environment. The process is covered by three U.S. Patents. ...Source: Robert Nelson, 1980, Rex Research, Box 19250, Jean, Nevada 89019.

Pachyderm Poop Paper Researchers at the Elephant Conservation Center in Thailand have discovered a way to transform Elephant Dung into a clean, odorless, Decorative Paper. The new Company…Maximus…stumbled on the idea when the Managing Director read about a Kenyan game ranger, who had used Elephant Waste to make Paper. An Elephant is truly, “A Walking Paper Factory.” Dung is first liquefied with water, strained through a sieve to remove the fiber, and then dried in the sun to create the Paper. Remaining material can be processed into Fertilizer. This innovative Waste Conversion Concept helped solve the problem of disposing of the 4,400 pounds of Elephant Waste created daily by the 40 Elephants at the Conservation Center. …BBC News Online, 2/10/02, http//news.bbc.co.uk/low/english/world/South-Asia.

PapercCrete & Paper Adobe “PaperCrete” is industrial-strength Paper Mache, made from Paper, Cardboard, Sand, & Cement. Ingredients are first mixed with water into a slurry, then are cast into Blocks, or Panels, and dried. Since PaperCrete is 80% air, it is lightweight, an excellent Insulation, and remarkably strong. Since the ingredients are free…except the Sand and cement…PaperCrete is remarkably inexpensive. “Paper Adobe” is a mix of Dirt, Paper, & Water, which can be used to create durable Building Blocks, which are lighter, and have a higher insulating value than adobe. Costs for building a home have been reduced to as little as 16 cents per square foot. The Amounts of Cardboard and Paper wasted every year is appalling! With millions of people living in substandard housing, PaperCrete and Paper Adobe are cost-effective, eco-friendly ways to turn Trash into Treasure, producing homes that are inexpensive, strong, well-insulated, and easily built. …Gordon Solberg, 1999, Building With Papercrete and Paper Adobe.

An Elephant Orchestra?? Thailand Elephant Conservation Center residents earn their keep by giving rides, demonstrating logging skills, and painting pictures for the tourists. Since Elephants’ Hearing is much more sensitive than Sight, they use a wide range of Vocal Signals to communicate, making them ideal candidates for music-making. American elephant expert, Richard Lair, and his friend Neuro-Chemist and Musician, Dave Soldier, conceived of the idea of an “Elephant Orchestra” several years ago in New York. They worked together to develop special jumbo-sized versions of traditional Thai musical instruments, including Tubular Bells, a xylophone-like Renat, an African Drum, a Thunder Sheet, Harmonicas, and a gong made from a Saw Blade confiscated from illegal loggers. The group has already produced its first CD, and is working on a second one. Conductor Lair, has worked out hand signals for the handlers to cue the elephants to play. It is hoped the new CD will raise awareness of the tragic state of Thailand’s Elephant Population, down to 2,500 from 100,000 a century ago. Lair continues to develop new Elephant Instruments, and new talent. One 3-year-old has already proved to be a rising Pachyderm Prodigy, while another Elephant Camp is working to develop its own orchestra. …Sources: Environment News Network, 4/23/01, http://www.mulatta.org/NYTimesElephant.html

Naturally Fast Food Thailand: Tucked into a corner of a busy Bangkok Shopping Mall is a unique new Eatery, which gives a whole new meaning to the term, “Fast Food.” The “Insects Inter” Stand is Thailand’s first Insect Fast-Food Chain...part of a 31-kiosk network that first opened its doors in March 2002. Insects have been a common food item in the Thai diet, especially in the northeastern regions of the Country. Insect Inter founder, Satapol Polprapas has taken the bold step of elevating the fried-insect business from grimy sidewalk carts to upscale stalls in modern malls and supermarkets. Most of Insect Inter’s customers are young, middle-class Thais, who have a taste for exotic foods, and are prepared to pay upscale prices for hygienically prepared food. States entrepreneur Polprapas, “We buy only live insects free of insecticides from our 5,000 contracted farmers...Our insects are fed with vegetables, fruits, and rice.” Insect Inter owners expect the Enterprise to expand to 100-150 franchises. The owners attribute their success to a secret recipe, and the unique sesame oil used for frying the food. Insect Inter soon expects to add Grasshopper Salad and Cricket Tempura to its expanding menu. ...Source: Vithoon Amorn, Reuters, 28 May, 2002

“Living Lunchbox” Concept The “Living Lunchbox” Concept is a unique new approach for creating Ultra-High- Energy Superfoods. It involves the intensive culture of Live Food Organisms, providing them with superior nutritional diets, so the organisms that feed on them have Superior Nutritional Qualities. As such, they represent “Designer Superfoods for the Future.” Intensive Aquaculture Systems provide The Ultimate Environments for delivering selected nutrients to cultured Marine Yeasts, Single-Cell Algae, Rotifers, and Brine Shrimp. These nutrient-packeted “Living Lunchboxes” are then introduced as Live Food for Larval and Juvenile stages of Shrimps, Fishes, and Shellfish grown in Aquaculture Systems. From an Energetics Perspective, it is very efficient to utilize Natural Solar Energy-Powered Photosynthesis to grow single-cell or multicellular algae such as Spirulina...itself, a Natural “Superfood,” which contains 70 percent Protein, and 9 Essential Amino Acids. Raising Vegetarian Fish Species like Tilapia is far more Ecologically Efficient than carnivorous Trout, Salmon, or Catfish, which require Pelleted Food, compounded from Ocean Fisheries Products,…which energetically rob Peter to pay Paul.

Coral Reefs: An Oceanic Rarity? Coral Reefs are rapidly becoming Rare Treasures! After compiling the first World Atlas of Coral Reefs, scientists say Coral Reefs cover only half to one-tenth of the area formerly thought. The UN Environmental Programme (UNEP) estimates over half of all Reefs are threatened by Human Activities, Coral Bleaching, Destructive Fishing, Irresponsible Tourism, and Pollution…which promote Algae that overwhelms the Coral Reef Ecosystems. Scientists estimate that only about 10 percent of the beautiful, unique species of Marine Organisms that live on or near Corals have been described. If Coral Reefs became extinct due to Human Activities, Scientists warn that reef-derived Pharmaceuticals (AZT being the most famous) will vanish from human reach forever. Protecting and Managing Reefs is not only good for the Fishes, but also provides Economic and Social Benefits for Local Communities. …Environment News Network, 9/17/01.

Size Matters In the world of marine critters, Size is very important for Positive Genetic Selection, so catching “The Biggest” and “The Best” could be making a major negative impact on the Marine Biological Gene Pool. Studies show that Larger Fish are reproductively more prolific by several orders of magnitude, than Smaller Individuals of the same species. Larger Fish will also most likely have Better Genes. A legal sized 17” Red Snapper produces about 44,000 eggs every year. A 24” Snapper (only 7” longer) produces 9.3 million eggs yearly (The larger fish produces as many eggs as 211 of the smaller ones). Our Fishing Regulations have followed the same outdated conventions, simply due to “Lack of Initiative for Change.” With our Global Fisheries collapsing at an alarming rate, it is time for New Fishing Regulations, which are appropriate for a Sustainable Future. Size does matter, so we need to throw the “Big Ones” back, so they can replenish our Biological Resources. …Rodale’s Scuba Diving, Jan.-Feb., 2002.

Other Size Benefits A small snail has recently been identified as a possible cause in the recent destruction of Elkhorn Corals in the Greater Caribbean. This snail happens to be a favorite food of lobsters, but the lobster must reach a certain size to have mouthparts strong enough to break through the snail’s shell. “Legal size” lobsters can not quite crush the snail’s shell, but larger lobsters have been observed to gobble down as many as a dozen snails in just a few minutes. Before the advent of spear fishing in 1957, many large lobsters roamed the tropical waters of the world. Since these large lobsters were easy targets for divers and spearfishermen, large lobsters and lobster populations nearly everywhere have been diminished to a shadow of their former abundance. …Rodale’s Scuba Diving, Jan.-Feb., 2002.

Seahorse Culture New Zealand Researchers have developed effective new techniques for Seahorse Culture. The Program will help alleviate severe Fishing Pressures on Wild Stocks, helping restore the Biological Balance in the Natural Environment. In recent years wild Sea Horse Populations in areas like the Philippines have declined drastically. Seahorses are under intense Pressures, due to high prices in Asian Pharmaceutical Markets, and demand for Aquarium Specimens and Souvenirs. Besides their Bizarre appearance, Seahorses undergo a Parental Role-Reversal. After courtship, the Female transfers her eggs to the male’s Brood Pouch, where they are fertilized and incubated. The Male eventually “gives birth” to the young, releasing them into the water, when they are fully formed and biologically independent. Increased interest in Seahorse Culture is demonstrated by new ventures in Australia, Vietnam, & China. Ventures like Seahorse Culture can create Local Industry, a product that is superior to wild specimens, and relieve pressure on the Natural Environment. ...Source: Aquaculture Update, No. 20, Summer, 1998.

Conch Farming After over 20 years, Conch Farming has become a Renewable, Sustainable Industry for selected locations in the Caribbean and Central America. The vegetarian Conch is the real “Chicken-of-the-Sea” (As opposed to the carnivorous Tuna). Conch has been a dietary staple for Indigenous Peoples since before recorded history. In the last few Decades, over-fishing has reduced Queen Conch populations to dangerously low levels in areas of the Caribbean where it was once abundant. TWI, Ltd., in the Turks & Caicos Islands has spent $9 million and 10 years to bring Conch Farming into economic feasibility. Their 10-acre Farm can produce 3 million Conchs a year, and has become the #1 source of Conch for the U.S. Their Conchs are superior in terms of Taste, Uniformity, and Fast Growth. A Female Conch can produce 500,000 eggs a year, and takes 3 years to become an adult. In the Wild, an average of only one of this number survives to reproductive maturity. Technology can increase this survival ratio manifold. Conch Meat is a Gourmet Delicacy. Shells are sold as Souvenirs, or made into Decorative Jewelry. One in 1000 Conchs produce a beautiful pink pearl, of jewelry quality. This Technology can also be extended to produce Aquarium Specimens, and to provide Seed Stock for restoring Natural Populations. ...Source: Conch Farming News, Vol. 7, No. 2

Rigs to Reefs Texas has had an Artificial Reef Development Program for over 50 years. Tires, Autos, and Construction Rubble have all been tried in Reef Building. These materials proved unsuitable, as they were broken up and moved by storms. The first attempts at Artificial Reef Development occurred in the late 1970’s, when 12 obsolete Liberty Ships were sunk in the Gulf of Mexico. Over 30 years later, these sites are still Biologically Productive, and have been enhanced by adding additional materials. Declines in Oil and Gas Prices in the 1980’s resulted in increasing numbers of rigs being scrapped. To date, 49 Oil Drilling Rigs have been donated by participating Oil and Gas Companies. The Artificial Reef Act of 1989 was designed to promote and enhance Artificial Reef Construction for the State of Texas. By combining Environmental Expertise with recommendations from a Citizen-Based Artificial Reef Advisory Council, a comprehensive set of Guidelines for establishment and maintenance of Artificial Reefs was put in place. ...Source: Texas Parks & Wildlife, Austin, Texas

Artificial Designer Reefs Reef Balls are flat-bottomed hollow concrete spheres, with a “Swiss Cheese” pattern of holes. On the Ocean Floor, they become habitats for Fishes and Invertebrates. To date, over half a million Reef Balls have been deployed in Marine Environments around the World. Reef Balls are created by pouring Concrete into Fiberglass Molds. When the concrete has cured, a flexible bladder is inserted into the interior, and inflated, so the Reef Ball can be towed through the water to the designated site. Different sized units, ranging from 2.5 to 5 feet in diameter can be combined to form an Artificial Reef. Reef Balls serve as Fish Attraction Devices. They also provide Ideal Substrates for Corals, and Encrusting Organisms. A single Reef Ball can produce 180 kg (400 lbs) of Animal and Plant Biomass in a year. Reef Balls provide protection for Juvenile Fishes and Invertebrates, and have also been successfully utilized for Live Coral Propagation. Recently a large-scale Marine Restoration Project, Reefball Asia, plans to place a million Reef Balls in the coastal waters of Malaysia for Marine Resource Enhancement, and as a focal point for Educational Programs in Marine Ecology. ...The Reef Ball Foundation, www.reefball.org

Global Coral-Reef Restoration The Idaho-based Geothermal Aquaculture Research Foundation (GARF), is a Non-Profit Center, established to provide Marine Aquarium Enthusiasts and Scientists with information on how to culture and maintain of Coral Reef Organisms in Saltwater Aquarium Environments. Using Artificial Sea Salts, and Geothermal Spring Water, the Group has leapfrogged the Scientific Establishment by developing successful culture techniques for many species of exotic Living Corals and Invertebrates, collected from the Tropical Oceans of the World. In addition to successfully culturing delicate Stony Corals, Soft Corals, and Invertebrates, GARF has developed new ways to maintain the balance of delicate Aquarium Ecosystems. The organization has developed a global network of Aquarium Enthusiasts and Suppliers of Live Flora and Fauna, who are engaged in Coral Culture around the World. They also supply what they term “Reef Janitors” (Snails, and Hermit Crabs that graze on Algae and Diatoms to maintain a natural Ecological Balance in Enclosed Aquarium Systems). Such Techniques offer an untapped potential for Restoring Coral Reefs that have been damaged or have disappeared entirely, from effects of Pollution and Global Warming. Restoring our Underwater Rain Forests A Pioneering Caribbean Company on the Island of Dominica has developed technologies which have the potential to restore the World’s Coral Reefs. Coral Reefs are complex, sensitive Ecosystems that provide food and shelter for countless Fishes and Invertebrates. Applied Marine Technologies (AMT) is the first Commercial Coral Cultivation Facility in the Caribbean…possibly the largest in the World. Founder/Director, Alan Lowe, has been in Coral Farming for 15 years. He feels AMT is in an ideal position for operating a privately funded Coral Propagation Farm. His team consists of a dedicated group of Engineers, Divers, Marine Biologists, and Coral Specialists. The Company’s Primary Objective is to cultivate Coral under controlled conditions, and replant it in reef areas that are environmentally damaged or destroyed. Corals can propagate asexually. If a small piece of coral “tree” is broken off and transplanted into a damaged reef structure, it can eventually grow into a large colony. Corals also propagate sexually once a year, and can produce half a million eggs, of which only one or two survive in the Natural Environment. AMT’s research indicates that a few hundred pieces of cultured coral transplanted into a damaged reef structure, can give the Reef a 165-year advantage over a Reef which has to recover naturally. ...Caribbean Compass, December, 2000, www.appliedmarinetech.com

Ecological Enhancement: Restoring the Global Biosphere Conserve and Protect the Environment. Selected Ecosystems must be protected from Resource Harvesting and BioPiracy, so that they can sustain their Biodiversity, and function effectively as “Biological Banks.” Improve the Ecosystem by Neutralizing, or Removing Negative Elements, which would impact the Ecosystem. For example, in a Wilderness Area, removing some of the deadwood and underbrush might serve to enhance the Forest, create a Park-Like Atmosphere, and help prevent Wildfires. This type of strategy was common in Feudal societies, where Foresters, managed “Royal Forests.” Create an “Enhanced Environment” where hi-energy supplements, mulch, and trace elements are brought in to enhance growth of desirable species of trees and vegetation. Some trees are thinned out to allow the hardiest species to grow. Other undesirable species of trees and underbrush might be removed entirely. Create an Entirely Enclosed Environment (as with enclosed Botanical Gardens), In this Scenario, species from around the world are grown together, in a “Global Super-Forest Reserve.” Carbon Dioxide Levels could even be raised to stimulate growth and vitality of the Enhanced Environment. Similar approaches could be taken to create Artificial Super-Reefs, which would be “Seeded,” and “Weeded” like a garden…thus assisting Nature in maintaining a Balanced Ecosystem.

Environmental Issues & Global Security Lloyd Axworthy, Chairman of the Manitoba Task Force on Climate Change, sees a Direct Link between the Environment and Global Security. Reducing North America’s dependency on Fossil Fuels would seem to be a good strategy in the War Against Terrorism, since Fundamentalist Islamics want Americans out of the Persian Gulf. If North Americans could improve Energy Efficiency, and Conservation, and develop Renewable Energy Resources, we would be much less dependent on exported oil from the Middle East, and thus remove a basic reason for being targeted by terrorist threats. …Winnipeg Free Press, 9/20/0, www. iids.org/taskforce/documents.htm

Israeli-Palestinian War for Water Dwindling Water Resources, caused by Pollution, Agriculture, Industrial Use, and Population Growth have raised the issue of Water to a Root Cause in the struggle for the Disputed Lands in the Middle East. Israel has 5 Million Jews and 1 Million Palestinians. The West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem are inhabited by 2.5 Million Palestinians. Israel has complete control of West Bank Water Resources, and uses 82% of the Underground Water. West-Bank Palestinians pay three times as much for water than do Israeli Settlers. Palestinian Daily Water Consumption is 35-50 liters per person. The 180,000 inhabitants of Bethlehem require 18,000 cu. meters daily in summer, but get only 8,000 cu meters. Environmental Experts say that the region’s three Main Water Sources are dangerously depleted. While the Israeli Public debates whether to wash the car or water the lawn, Palestinians suffer from a water shortage to meet even their basic needs. The Palestinian Water Chairman recently stated, “...there will be no peace if there is no water. If there will be no water, I don’t think any agreement of peace will live more than two or three years.” ...Source: Environment News Service, April 1, 2002

Seeds of Peace Founded in 1993 by Author/Journalist John Wallach, Seeds of Peace attempts to bring Arab and Israeli teenagers together, helping them put aside the mistrust and prejudice that blind them from seeing the human faces of their traditional enemies. Seeds of Peace is a non-profit, non-political organization. It goes beyond the limitations of government, by sowing Concepts and Actions of Peace...teaching teenagers to Trust and Empathize with one another. Every year, over 300 outstanding teens from Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Palestine, Morocco, Qatar, Yemen and other parts of the Middle East are chosen from over 2000 applicants. They are selected without regard to their economic or social status…solely on the basis of Academic Performance and Leadership Skills. Another program takes place in a Camp in the Maine Woods. Here, a safe, supportive environment has been created, where youngsters can express their Visions, learn Listening, Communication, and other Conflict-Resolution Skills. Seeds of Peace is creating the Social Landscape for the Future, by enabling people, blinded by hatred, to see the human side of their “Enemies.” It is equipping the Next Generation with the tools to end the violence, and become the Leaders of Tomorrow. …Source: www.seedsofpeace.com

Computer Village in the Clouds Nepalese Education Pioneer, Mahabir Pun, is attempting to break the Cycle of Poverty in his mountain village of Nangi by bringing it into the Computer Age. One of his professors helped him set up a simple Website about his Village and the School in 1996. This Website connected them to the Outside World, and attracted the attention of people in other countries, who helped by sending Books, Teaching Materials, and Money. Used Computers and Parts came in from Australia, the U.S., Malaysia, and Singapore. Pun and his Students assembled others, using wooden boxes to hold the components. Since the village had no electricity, Pun installed two Hydroelectric Generators in a nearby stream. The School now has 15 Computers for the 300 students, who come from six neighboring villages. Previously, only rich private schools in the city offered computer classes. Most students in rural Nepal had never even seen a computer, let alone used one.

Slide 42

Pun finally got a Phone Line for the village in 1996, but the quality was not good enough for an Internet Connection. So, about once a month, a group of Students and Teachers walk for a full day to the nearest city, where internet service is available for them to communicate with others around the world. The group would like a Satellite Telephone hook-up, but this option is presently too costly. With Internet Access in the Village, the Website can be used to raise Money to provide Quality Education for the local children. It also can provide information about Nepalese Culture to children all over the world, and invite volunteers to visit the village. Pun envisions eventually building a College in his village, which will provide Computer Courses for local students, and open the way for them to become Computer Programmers, so they can produce Software for big companies around the World. Internet Access is the Key to Success for the Plan. ...Source: BBC News, 22 October, 2001.

A New Paradigm Model for the Third Millennium A New TriMillennium Paradigm Model differs fundamentally from Paradigms of the Past, with their Rigid Mental Sets and Restrictive Guidelines. New Paradigm Models can be created in entirely New Formats, as “Living Paradigms,” designed to be Self-Organizing, and capable of Growth, Change, and Evolution, with regard to the Social and Ecological Characteristics for any particular Historical TimeFrame. Unlike Paradigms of the Past, which were essentially Inflexible, Constrictive Frameworks; New-Millennium Paradigms can be created with Flexible, Evolvable Guidelines, to provide an Enriched Mental and Spiritual Environment, which will encourage Intellectual Diversity, and stimulate Creative Solutions for Social, Economic, and Environmental Problems for the Global Community. Embedded in the organizational fabric of these New Paradigm Models would be the Concept of creating New Solutions, Technologies, Concepts, and Programs which would involve “Designing for Posterity.” Every proposed Decision and Action would be evaluated in terms on its potential Impact on Present and Future Generations. TriMillennial Concepts and Programs also incorporate the Idea of “Giving Back More than You Take,” in terms of Human Activities relative to creating Positive Future Scenarios for the Global Biosphere, and for the Generations Yet to Come.

A TriMillennium Center for Future-Science Technology® and Planetary Enhancement

Slide 51

A Global Group of Key Leaders - Futurists, Scientists, and Creative Thinkers would be selected from Industry, Government, Education, Fine Arts, and Non-Profit Sectors, to cooperate and collaborate within a set of Consensus Guidelines and Objectives. The TriMillennium Project would be founded to research, develop, and put into practical operation, Environmentally Clean, Ecologically Compatible New Technologies. These Transformative Technologies would then be integrated into the existing Global Socio-Economic Infrastructure, for the purpose of transforming Human Lifestyles in areas of Power Generation, Transportation, Communications, Manufacturing, Consumption, Marketing, Waste Management, Strategic Food Resources, and Ecosensible Living Standards. Thus, an entirely New Sustainable Lifestyle would be created…One which would be ecologically compatible with the Global Biosphere, for the Present and Future Generations of all Humankind. A “TriMillennium Council” would work together to develop entirely new Transformative Paradigms for A Socio-Functional Framework, which would be ecologically appropriate for both Third Millennium Society and the Global Biosphere. The First Prototypical TriMillennium Center would take the form of a Global Conceptualization, Planning, and Conference Center…set up for purposes of establishing a Nurturing, Synergistic, and Creative Environment, where participants could live and work for periods ranging from Several Days, to Several Months.

Slide 52

A TriMillenium Conference Facility should be conveniently accessible via International Air Transport. The Center should be equipped with state-of-the-art Telecommunications Technologies, to facilitate Virtual Conferencing with TriMillennium Centers in other geographical locations on the Planet. The TriMillennium Center would be designed with the objective of becoming completely self-sufficient in terms of Energy Generation, Food Production, and Waste Recycling, utilizing advanced principles of Ecological Design, patterned after Futuristic Models like those of Doug Michels, or Jacques Fresco, which integrate the design of Human Habitats into the surrounding Natural Environment. This type of Synergy between Human Ecology and the Natural Ecology will serve as a Prototypical Example for the rest of society, and provide an environment which fosters Health, Goodwill, and Creativity, without National, Ethnic, or Religious Restrictions. In addition to Comfortable Living Accommodations, the Center should offer an array of Health-Enhancing, and Rejuvenating Recreational Activities, which relate directly to the Natural Environment, such as Swimming, Snorkeling, Scuba Diving, Horseback Riding, Sailing, Kayaking, Hiking, Bicycling, etc.

Slide 53

The Concept could initially be developed as a series of Fly-in, Conferences, organized at Environmentally Focused Resorts in different geographical locations. A basic Telecommunications Module could be designed in Shippable Container Format, and transported to remote sites as needed. As the Concept grows and evolves, certain appropriate locations can be developed into Future-Science Eco-Village Centers... and eventually Futuristic Eco-Cities, which will serve as Prototypical Examples for the rest of Global Society. New Centers established at Strategic Geographical Locations would constitute “Nodal Points” of a Global Consciousness Net, which would eventually be within the reach of every Cultural Creative, and every Citizen of the Planet. Long-Term Housing and Retirement Villages could be established at selected locations, to encourage Mentorship and Training for Future Generations of Leaders by designated Wisdom Council Members. Funding would utilize the combined resources of National, Regional, Corporate, Educational, NGO, and Private Donors; with Private-Donor Participation being encouraged, to avoid overweighted influence by any National, Multinational, or Religious Group.

“It is remarkable that Science, itself, using its own methods, has validated the Reality of the four major psychic phenomena. Instances of Telepathy, Clairvoyance, Precognition, and Psychokinesis have been verified repeatedly in thoughtful laboratory research projects. Further, such abilities are not rare, but seem to be widely distributed among the population.” …Source: Charles T. Psi Micro-Vision To date, Physicists have defined some 200 Subatomic Particles, using sophisticated technologies of High-Energy Physics. Surprisingly, detailed observations of Molecular, Atomic, and Subatomic Structures were made nearly 80 years ago! A form of Subtle-Energy Perception, historically described as “Magnifying Clairvoyance,” or “Micro-Psi” has been commonly used by Eastern Adepts for thousands of years. In its classical form, the technique does not consist of magnifying the object to be studied, but in “making oneself infinitesimally small.” In 1895, C. W. Leadbeater and Annie Besant of The Theosophical Society, began an Intensive Research Program, which continued for 38 years. Starting with the Simpler Elements of Hydrogen, Nitrogen, and Oxygen, the investigators eventually included all known elements of the times, plus selected organic and inorganic Compounds. Using Micro-Psi Techniques, the object of study was described to an assistant, who produced detailed sketches. Atoms were depicted as highly structured bodies, with definitive external structure, and an interior which was subdivided into smaller compartments of spherical, ovoid, conical, and other shapes. These bodies were divided into smaller compartments, which were, in turn, observed to contain much smaller components. Since the atoms under observation were vibrating at high frequencies, the researchers found it necessary to apply Psychokinetic Techniques to slow the motion down, so accurate observation and counting could occur.

Slide 56

In 1979, Cambridge University Physicist, Dr. Stephen Phillips, developed an improved version of Classical Quark Theory, which involves the subdivision of each Quark into the Sub Quarks (i.e. Omegon). The discrepancy between current Physics Theory and Dr. Phillip’s New Evolved Theory was bridged through reinterpretation of the Micro-Psi Data of Besant and Leadbeater, who 85 years earlier had claimed to “see” an Atom exactly as it was described in Phillip’s 1979 paper, which appeared in the Scientific Journal, Physics Letters. Since the re-structuring of the Soviet Union, a wealth of hitherto undisclosed Russian Psi-Research has become available to Western Scientists. Theoretically, training psi-gifted individuals in Psi-Micro-Vision Techniques, should be analogous to U.S. and Russian Military Programs developed for Remote Viewing. Micro-Psi Technology offers a wealth of Exciting Possibilities for redefining the fields of Physics, Chemistry and Medicine. It offers incredible potential, since trained viewers can describe exactly what is happening at Molecular, Atomic, or Sub-Atomic Levels, and psychokinetically transform apparent light-speed phenomena into “Slow Motion,” for convenient step-by-step analysis of the process. By creating integrated “Teams” of Micro-Psi Technologists and Conventional Scientists, countless new and exciting Paradigms could be developed…to completely revise virtually all existing areas of Science and Technology.

Internet-Based Torsionic Meditation: A New Technology for Raising Global Consciousness In the 1070’s a U.S. Air Force Group in Thailand donated some obsolete computers to a community of Buddhist Monks, who began using the Computer Hard Drives as modern techno-analogs of traditional Buddhist Prayer Wheels. According to Russian leading-edge Consciousness Researchers, the basis for Torsionic Meditation was established by spiritual teachers Nicholas and Helen Roerich. Within this context, Buddhist Prayer Wheels and Computer Hard Drives can be regarded as Generators, that can propagate faster-than-light Torsionic Emissions, which can transmit information over Interstellar Distances. Mass-availability, low cost, and precision specifications of Computer Hard Drives (Finely-Tuned Spinning Fractal Multimagnets), with an estimated 400 million PC’s in the World today (100 Million of them connected to the Global Internet), create the Potential for a Planetary-Scale Phased Torsionic Antenna, that can be used for Collective Meditation, and Global Consciousness Shifting. This Spiritual Defense Initiative (SDI) Strategy for Consciousness Uplifting and Planetary Defense was originally suggested by Spiritual Teachers, including Swami Satchidananda, who was influential both in the formation of the Pentagon Meditation Club in the U S, and the Russian Initiative Group for Defense of Earth…a group of Experts for the Research and Exploration of Inner Space. ...Source: C.
