The Year 6 Exhibition centres around the big idea that “Social inequities around the world create the need for action”. By understanding this central idea, students, in addition, gain an understanding of what it means to share our planet.
It provides an authentic opportunity for working collaboratively which is a critical real life skill needed for developing international-mindedness and bringing about small or big changes.
An internationally- minded person is someone who is inquiring, knowledgeable and caring AND Helps to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect
The process, that is, what each student learns through undergoing the entire exhibition process - is far more important than the end result. It may be a cliché, but it is true, the journey truly is more important than the destination!
It is intended that the person taking action will grow from the experience And taking action will contribute to each student establishing a personal set of values
In the words of Kath Murdoch, an advocate of the inquiry process “Schools are well positioned to offer students real experiences of active citizenship both within the organisation itself and across the local and global communities beyond the school’
