John 6.1-9 page 1038 Jesus Feeds Five Thousand (Matthew 14:13-21; Mark 6:30-44; Luke 9:10-17) 1After this, Jesus crossed over the Sea of Galilee, also known as the Sea of Tiberias. 2And a huge crowd kept following him wherever he went, because they saw his miracles as he healed the sick. 3Then Jesus went up into the hills and sat down with his disciples around him. 4(It was nearly time for the annual Passover celebration.) 5Jesus soon saw a great crowd of people climbing the hill, looking for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, “Philip, where can we buy bread to feed all these people?” 6He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do. 7Philip replied, “It would take a small fortune to feed them!” 8Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up. 9“There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?” 2Following for show 5Tests are to deepen & strengthen our faith 9Faith is thinking outside the box

John 6.10-15 page 1038 Jesus Feeds Five Thousand (Matthew 14:13-21; Mark 6:30-44; Luke 9:10-17) 10“Tell everyone to sit down,” Jesus ordered. So all of them—the men alone numbered five thousand—sat down on the grassy slopes. 11Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and passed them out to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate until they were full. 12“Now gather the leftovers,” Jesus told his disciples, “so that nothing is wasted.” 13There were only five barley loaves to start with, but twelve baskets were filled with the pieces of bread the people did not eat! 14When the people saw this miraculous sign, they exclaimed, “Surely, he is the Prophet we have been expecting!” 15Jesus saw that they were ready to take him by force and make him king, so he went higher into the hills alone. 11Focus on God 15Wanting our own way over God’s plan Ephesians 3.20 page 1147 20Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us…

John 6.16-21 page 1038 Jesus Walks on Water (Matthew 14:22-33; Mark 6:45-52) 16That evening his disciples went down to the shore to wait for him. 17But as darkness fell and Jesus still hadn’t come back, they got into the boat and headed out across the lake toward Capernaum. 18Soon a gale swept down upon them as they rowed, and the sea grew very rough. 19They were three or four miles£ out when suddenly they saw Jesus walking on the water toward the boat. They were terrified, 20but he called out to them, “I am here! Don’t be afraid.” 21Then they were eager to let him in, and immediately the boat arrived at their destination! 17When going gets tough, we return to comfortable 17We get in trouble without Jesus 21Our willing reception calms life and gets us to where we want to be faster

Matthew 14.28-33 page 947 Jesus Walks on Water (Mark 6:45-52; John 6:16-21) 28Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you by walking on water.” 29“All right, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. 30But when he looked around at the high waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. 31Instantly Jesus reached out his hand and grabbed him. “You don’t have much faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” 32And when they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped. 33Then the disciples worshiped him. “You really are the Son of God!” they exclaimed. 29Jesus invites us to do the supernatural 30We can’t take our eyes off Jesus 31Our doubting without faith keeps us from what God wants to accomplish in us
