The Opportunity There are opportunities for everyone to lead and make a difference. Tribes are everywhere. People are looking for tribes that matter to them. Leading a tribe is no longer about ‘can I do it’ but rather it is about ‘will I do it’. Pg 8

What Does it Take to Create a Movement? All a tribe needs is a shared interest and a way to communicate. Pg 23

Twitter and Trust and Tribes and True Fans Social media has made it a lot easier to connect like-minded individuals who are passionate about a topic.

Something to Believe In “Tribes are about faith” People will buy into, and get involved in, the things they REALLY believe in. Tribes are not about motivating people. Tribes are made of people already motivated by what they believe in. Pg 9

Tribes Aren’t So Squishy Anymore Pg 6 New technology and modes of communication such as social media, blogs, etc. are making it easier to form and nurture tribes. Connections and communication are more firm, something you can count on.

Crowbars “With a long enough crowbar, you can rip nails out of a board. With a long enough teeter-totter, you can lift a sumo wrestler…” Leverage your resources. It isn’t about how big or important you are, it’s about what you do with what you have. Pg 36

The Revolution Will Not be Televised Real leadership is not something we see, it is something that happens just out of sight, somewhere we aren’t watching. Often we only notice good leadership AFTER the fact. Pg 122

How to Sell a Book (or Any New Idea) Tribes grow when people recruit people. Leaders don’t need to build big tribes. A leader really only needs to find ONE person. If the book, or idea, resonates then that person will tell two friends, who tell two friends, and on and on. Pg 129

Which Would You Prefer: Trial or Error? Things don’t happen overnight, a big change occurs as the result of many small changes, each adapting, adjusting, and improving. Don’t JUDGE success by the first steps, keep making changes to improve. Leadership is about being there for the long haul. Pg 131

Where Credit is Due Leaders care about results not rewards; creating change rather than getting credit. Pg 135

What Do You Have to Lose? “After building a reputation and earning respect, only good things can happen when you present an “honest appraisal”. Someone will give you a chance, even if your current ‘boss’ does not. At worst, you will end up in a better job with people who want to change. Pg 141

The Look of a Leader Leaders have nothing in common; appearance, age, education, resources, etc. but they all decided to lead. Pg 145
