Hi, my name is Elizabeth Dickey, my students call me Miss Liz! I am going to be your First grade teacher!
When I am not at school I am gardening! Camping! Canoeing! Reading! Cooking!
My Family
This is my 19th year teaching children! I taught Kindergarten for 11 years on the Navajo Indian Reservation.
I have been teaching First Grade for six years and have loved every minute of it!
Our Daily Schedule: 8:35 Bell Work: Journal writing & math problems 8:45 Pledge of Allegiance, Good morning songs and news of the day. 9:00 Word Work: Oral Vocabulary/Phonics/Spelling 9:30 Comprehension (Whole Group Reading of Basal) 10:00 Recess 10:15 Math instruction 11:20 Lunch and Recess 12:05 Read Aloud (PE on Fridays at 12:00) 12:15 Writing (Computers on Thursdays at 12:30) 12:45 Math Fluency!! 1:00 Reading Centers (Small Group Reading Instruction on your child’s reading level). 2:00 Recess 2:15 Rotations: Science-Art-Health-Music-Social Studies 3:15 Return Home
Parent expectations: 1. Get your child to school, on time, daily. 2. If your child is sick, keep them home. Your child needs 8 hours of sleep and healthy food for them to function fully at school. Please communicate with me! I need to know about any problems or concerns!
What to bring to first grade: 1. A book bag or back pack 2. A pencil box 3. Two 3 ring binders for your homework folder and your portfolio. 4. 10 Sheet protectors (thick glossy type work best) 5. Glue Sticks 6. Small tip Expo Dry –Erase markers (black only please!)
What not to bring: 1. Toys 2. Electronic devices of any kind! 3. Flip flops and Wheelies!
Items you can donate: 1. A box of Tissues 2. A roll of paper towels 3. Treats for our treasure box. Paper cups Art supplies
Pick up and Drop off site: Please use the South side of the school so that your child can enter our classroom door. The door will open when the first bell rings at 8:30 am. Your child will exit the building When the bell rings at 3:15 pm. *Please be careful crossing the street!
If it is too cold to wait outside Please drop off your child at the front doors so they can wait in the Kiva by the office. If your child is late drop them off at the front doors so they can sign in and go to class.
We love to celebrate your child’s special day! You are welcome to bring store bought goodies on your child’s birthday. We will enjoy them after lunch. If you have a summer birthday you can Choose another day to bring in treats, Please let me know.
Recess: Please dress your child Appropriately for the weather. We will have 3 recess’s a day: 10:00 am 11:30 am to 12:00 2:00 pm Unless it is extreme weather we will go out. If your child is too sick to go Out please write me a note.
Field Trips: We will be going on two field trips this year. To the Tree House Museum To Hogle Zoo in May Save us your box tops and Campbell's soup labels. That is how we pay for the Busses. The school district gives us no money for field trips. They will provide The buss, but we have to pay for the gasoline and driver.
Homework! Homework will be sent home on the First day of each week. Please return the homework to school on the Last day of the week. The most important part of the Homework is reading 20 min a night! If you need homework for an extended vacation or sick leave please call the school and give me a day’s notice to prepare it. You can pick it up from the office a day after calling.

Valentines Party in Feb Silly Day Party in the Spring Tree House Field Trip Hogle Zoo Field Trip in May We could also use parents to come in and listen to children read daily from 1:00 to 2:00
