OH Hip Hop Presents: Rap's Fall From The Apex

Slide 2

http://ohhiphop.com Hip Hop music has always been the best selling music genre since its creation. However, things have drastically changed and Rap sales are always declining. Every once in a while, a mainstream album will top the charts, but it doesn't happen as often as it used to. A lot of people have theories why this is happening. There are obvious reasons, but some reasons go unnoticed. This article will discuss each of the important reasons that sales are declining in this great music genre.

Slide 3

http://ohhiphop.com The actual content of Hip Hop music is not as good as it once was. During the golden era of Rap music, artists came out with new topics, new rhymes, new styles, and won over the hearts of many Rap heads. Until the new century, Rap was constantly blossoming into new music. Now, the topics are mostly the same as the last song on the radio. Is this the artist's fault or the fan's? Where has the creativity gone? Hip Hop has become generic and those that follow the lead are the only ones that get on the radio. Why buy a new album if the last album you bought has a different artist saying the same exact thing?

Slide 4

http://ohhiphop.com The internet is what is mostly responsible for the decline. The ability to get free Hip Hop album (illegally) has tempted most Hip Hop fans, instead of going and supporting their favorite artists. Most people will agree that the internet is the main reason for a sales decline. Most people get hundreds of albums and never get caught so why would they stop? it has hurt the music industry as a whole, not just the Rap scene.

Slide 5

http://ohhiphop.com What effect does this all have on Rap music? Record labels that used to be at the top are now clinging to their last hopes. Artists are making less money per album so they are cranking out lower quality albums at a faster rate. Now, new artists try to be as mainstream as possible to sell like the few that still sell well. The golden age of Hip Hop doesn't even seem to relate to the new age of music. Fans don't want to pay for the same topics covered by other artists so they get the music for free instead. The cycle keeps repeating and the music world gets even lower.

Slide 6

http://ohhiphop.com Can we stop this from ruining this great music genre? Piracy may be hindered but it can't be stopped. We can go out and purchase the original artist's albums and show the music industry that quality music does still sell. The content quality will come back eventually and we may see Hip Hop rise again to a new golden era. Hopefully, something can be done before Hip Hop is dead altogether.
