Being computer literate has become a necessity during the technology turnover. Having the ability to locate knowledge is dependant on whether or not you obtain Pc skills. From the ATM to checking out at the grocery store has one: Become very technical and Two: Become more of an independent process. From the screen shots we see that at one time we had cord catalogs that held all of the bibliographic informtion about a book, today this information is located by use of a Pc.

In the photo above we can see hundreds of bound journals accessed by researchers, students etc. At one point in time a researcher could have spent 150 hrs per month sitting in a library referencing journals, now by accessing journals on-line the number of hours can be reduced by 50% and it is possible to be at home, in your car, or in the park, thanks to Wi-Fi.

Technology in this case plays an important role in physical space. As information continues to grow, buildings that hold materials are getting full. E-books introduces a new format of holdings. It allows access to materials 24 hrs a day. Once again I’d like to mention the importance of computer literacy.

Being able to check out your own materials assists with long lines, but in the interim are we losing connectivity with the society we serve?

RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) is the latest technology to be used in library theft detection systems. RFID-based systems combine security with more efficient tracking of materials throughout the library, including easier and faster charge and discharge, inventorying, and materials handling.
