The new year The new year – international falling holiday of 1 January of each year (in the Gregorian calendar), in Poland it is public holiday. In the universally adopted custom one should commence celebrating a holiday from opening a bottle of champagne at midnight from day 31 of December on 1 January of next year. The day preceding the new year is carrying the name of the New Year's Eve in the Polish tradition.

curiosity For the first time the holiday was get around ceremonially in year 999, when the II New Year's Eve was the Pope. according to the priorer prophecy of the Sibyl in 1000 had the year to come the end of the world, hence inhabitants of Rome (similarly like of other cities of Europe) 31 December 999 greeted the year with great anxiety. But when the day passed and anxieties associated with coming of the end of the world turned out to be groundless, into the moment after the midnight great joy seized people, they started playing and celebrating, and the II New Year's Eve gave urbi blessings for the first time in history ah orbi (for "the city and world"), who since then of every first day of the new year is being given by the Popes. To Poland the tradition of celebrating the New Year's Eve hit in the 19th century and she entertained one another at first in cities amongst the wealthiest persons.
