The zinc for the casting wheel is pumped from a section at the front of the melting furnace called the pump well. When the zinc pump is started, the zinc from the pump falls first into a tundish from where it overflows into the heated launder which takes it to the bottom of the casting wheel, through each spout to fill the moulds.
