In the United Kingdom, Christmas is a familiar celebration at home with the family. English people decorate their houses with the Christmas tree and send Christmas cards to family and friends.

Red and green are the colours of Christmas time. Green represents life. Red represents Jesus’ blood. People use natural materials to decorate their houses like holly, ivy and non natural materials like bells, and the nativity scene

For dessert they eat a rich fruity pudding which is doused in flaming brandy. This rich fruity pudding is called the Christmas Pudding. The Christmas pudding is a brown pudding with raisins, nuts and cherries. It is similar to fruitcake, except that pudding is steamed and fruitcake is baked.

Christmas Crackers Christmas Crackers are very popular and accompany many meals over the Christmas period, especially on Christmas Day. A Christmas Cracker is a brightly coloured paper tube, twisted at both ends. A person pulls on each end of the cracker and when the cracker breaks, a small chemical strip goes “Pop” and the contents fall out. Crackers are very traditional items to have at Christmas.

An English Christmas Tea Christmas tea is enjoyed by family and friends. They invite aunts, uncles and friends to a party of games and fun. They eat Christmas tea about 6 p.m.

CHRISTMAS EVE All children of the UK wish the presents for Christmas. They write a letter to Santa Claus with all the presents that they want. Santa Claus makes the presents with a lot of elves in the North Pole.

On 24th December, when all children are sleeping, he comes sitting in his sleigh and flies across the sky with his reindeers to give the presents that all children had wished.
