Who are we? We are a long-lived strong team with several awards at our backs, composed of the following High School: Liceo Ginnasio Statale “Q. What’s Etwinning? And Comenius? eTwinning Comenius The Comenius actions aim to help young people and educational staff better understand the range of European cultures, languages and values. They also help young people acquire the basic life skills and competences necessary for personal development, future employment and active citizenship. Etwinning is the Community for schools in Europe. Teachers from all participating countries can register and use the eTwinning online tools (the Portal and the Desktop) to find each other, meet virtually, exchange ideas and practice examples, team up in Groups, learn together in Learning Events and engage in online-based projects.

Our Project Our  project aim is to make a short movie set in Roman times. The main focus is our students, belonging to different High Secondary Schools, working together, communicating to make Latin culture protagonist of contemporary Europe. Each School will create different characters and students must produce together  the plot.  We will try to shoot in places, close to our Schools, where Roman Monuments have left their imprint in our territory. The film will be shot in English and Latin (or English and subtitled in Latin). Thus we intend to enhance the knowledge of a foreign language and our own subject.

Steps of our Project Previous preparation of workspace, by participating teachers: Webquest, Network, Twinspace, Preparatory meeting in Montijo. Pupils’ introductions. Activities to promove the knowledge of our own identity: this is my city, recipes, my school… Activities to involve students in our subjects. Activities to promove interaction: 5 words 5 countries, where’s the Zeus’ cup, creation of the plot… Funny activities: flashmob, lipdub… …and obviously, activities related with the movie!

Preparation: Webquest The first step was taken by teachers, developing a webquest in English, Italian, Spanish, German and Turkish through which students could know exactly the various project steps, tasks to be performed in each of the phases, resources and assessment of their main tasks.

Preparation: Twinspace Teachers prepared the workspace on Twinspace, a collaborative and safe site offered by Etwinning.

Preparation: Social Network and Google site We prepared also a Social Network to get interaction among our students and a Google site where teachers can exchange documentation about our project.

2. Hello, how are you? The second step was to introduce: Hello, How are you?, my name is ... Apart from writing some words in their profiles, students could: Record a Voki in English or Latin. Show their hobbies in a Glogter. Record a video.

Next step: I show my identity to other students We had to know each other so we did some activities to get this aim. In this way, there planned different activities such as this is my city, recipes, my school, customs in your country, a moment in the History of my city… Pupils had to use at least different web 2.0 tools. They could find some of these tools in the development of each activity.

A funny way to teach Latin! We’ve included several activities to involve students in our subject. Inclusimus diversas activitates quae appropinquent discipulis ad Latinam Linguam.

How do you say…? Students filmed videos to teach us some words in their language

Activities to promove interaction Pupils had to join and be part of interschool groups. We wanted to pupils work together and interact with each other in order to make a real and effective learning. In this way we planned activities such as The race of Oscars, creation of the plot, 5 words 5 countries, where’s the Zeus’ cup?, the Logo contest …
