Masthead The masthead is in an unusual in that the main image is in front of the Masthead. Main Image As said in the Masthead the main image is in front of the masthead and fills the whole page. This is because of the celebrity the image is of and this also encourages the audience to look at the magazine (her). Cover Lines This is to tell the audience/reader the stories or contents of the this magazine issue. The colours red and black are kept constant in the cover lines and masthead, this suggests a house style of the magazine. Barcode For scanning to purchase the magazine and can also show the price of the magazine, and also shows the date. Barcodes are an ‘ugly’ convention of a magazine front cover. Sell Lines These are used as a selling point for a magazine or to convince the audience/reader to buy items for example “Classic Looks For Spring”.

Banner Usually a ‘pun to get the reader interested in the magazine and contains buzz words which hype up for example instead of “18 Towns” they have put “18 COOLEST Towns” Masthead Like the first magazine cover I analyzed, the main image is of a celebrity so they are in front of the masthead as he is there to be looked at. Main Feature Tells the audience what the magazines main story for this issue, for example this shows that the main image of the celebrity is ‘Jake Gyllenhaal’ and also what the story is about the celebrity. Barcode For scanning to purchase the magazine and can also show the price of the magazine, and also shows the date. Barcodes are an ‘ugly’ convention of a magazine front cover. Secondary Features These stories attract the audience, but not as much as the main feature which appeals to the core target audience. For example the font is smaller and on one side of the front cover, unlike the main feature which is in the middle and has its own large title with larger font.

Slide 3

Masthead This masthead is large and has a two tone color, but again does not take the focus off the celebrity by being behind the celebrity Main Image This main image is different to all the others in that nothing else on the page is in front or on top of the image, it is also a rather large image and takes up around 2/3 of the front cover. Puff This advertises that this magazine is ‘special’ as it is “The Real Rap Issue”, making the audience more interested to know what's so good/new about this magazine compared to other music magazines. This also targets the Rap genre for readers who’s favorite music is Rap. Feature Headline This starts with the quote “I literally almost died” and when the audience see the name EMINEM it is even more exciting because of the celebrity saying this instead of an unknown person. Secondary Feature This is asking a question which will be answered on the page of the story, but the text is not big enough to take the audiences/readers attention of the main feature.

Slide 4

Masthead Simple and easy to read, sans serif style and no bright colors and is also on top of the main image. Main Image This main image covers the whole of the front cover, showing that this issue of the magazine is all about the person pictured, the image also follows the house style on that it is mainly white and red with hints of black. Puff Shows that this issue is a Special Edition, and the second of 10, making the audience want to read more to complete the collection or understand the previous version so they are ready for the next. Main Feature This is started by a quote and then ends with a large font saying “FLORENCE”, which links to the main image of the celebrity who has said this quote containing a show which is linked to her being a music artist. Secondary Feature This attract the audience but not as much as the main feature, which appeals to the core audience. Kicker All the names are other music artists which will attracts fans of the artists.

Logo – This is in a serif font style to seem more modern and sophisticated, this appeals a more mature audience and shows that there is less ‘heavier’ music in the Music Magazine. Main Image – The main image is relating to the front cover feature story and also has a small banner over the image to also indicate the page the reader/audience has to go to. Next to the logo is a banner which contains the word CONTENTS, indicating that the page is the contents page, and also the date and issue number is present in the banner. There is an individual box for an a ‘Special’ feature to this issue, which is gold to show its importance over the other stories, this also shows the page numbers of the stories which are also gold. All the other features of the magazine/the other stories are in red, which goes with the magazines house style of red and white, and also sets the ‘special’ content apart from the constant style of the contents page. There is an individual box to show a complete section for Reviews, this is because this people buy the magazine just for the reviews the magazine has, so this box has the page numbers and also the min image of the person/artist they are reviewing and also text for the other reviews.

Slide 6

The Top of the contents page has an ‘unfinished’ banner which is unusual but effective, and has the ability to show the audience/reader the issue number and that this is in fact the contents page. Also on the top the magazine has put pictures of the secondary stories and also included the page number they are located on, to simply draw the reader to these stories over the other ‘little’ stories. In addition to these smaller images of the secondary images, there is a large image of the main story of this magazine issue which is set out the same way with the page number in the top left-hand corner of the image. And to make the audience/reader even more drawn to the story it has an ‘EXCLUSIVE’ sticker across the image, showing that they would not get this information in the story in any other magazine. Aside the large main image is the other stories in the magazine which are set out similar to the images in that they have the page number with text of what each story is about, this also sticks to a clear house style/layout of the magazines contents page. The overall layout of the magazine is clear and consistent, which gives an easy to read and more recognizable. This also suggest a more modern and educated style of magazine. There is a box with the same sort of layout of text and stories as next to the main image, but this is in a box and does not keep to the house style of the magazine. This is to set this area of stories apart from the rest, and also the text that shows these are ‘REGULAR’ stories is the reason for these differences.

Slide 7

This magazine contents page has a more ‘cramped layout in that it is more dominated by text than images, which gives the feel of a more informative magazine. There is a rather large banner across the top of the magazine contents page, which is really unneeded as it contains only three large words and the date of the magazine issue. All the way down the left side of the contents page is the stories of the magazine, they are set out in a way that on the story heading/title is shown and the page number is next to it, this can be good as if the title of the stories are interesting enough this will make the audience/reader more interested in reading the stories. Like a magazine front cover, there is main image of the main story of this magazine issue and also the story title and a small amount information on the story. Below the main story image and information there is a subscription offer which advertises the ‘cheap’ price of the subscription, this is a good for the reader to see before they read the magazine stories as if they enjoy them they know the price of subscribing to the magazine and may consider the subscription. On the right hand side of the contents page is a separate banner of the ‘Regular’ parts of each magazine issue, which is set out differently to this magazine issue story list and also stands out more, seeming more important.

Slide 8

This contents page page is rather weird, for firstly the CONTENTS title of the page is over drawn on the page or too big so covers three lines, which is less clear for the audience/reader. The text on this contents page is in a Serif style and has a more elegant and modern feel to it, there is also not a lot of text on the page and what text there is, is very small. The page is dominated by a picture of the known celebrity ‘Ciara’ which is also a way to make the page look more glamorous. The legs of the celebrity also fit the magazines V logo. The issue and date is located in the unusual position of the bottom right part of the page, which also makes it harder to spot. Each story, like the other, magazine contents pages has the page number next to the story title and also has a small amount of information about the story, so the reader can decide what they would be interested in and what to read.

Slide 9

The double page spread follows the normal rules for nearly every magazines double page spread, in that first the picture on who or what the double page spread is about covers ½ to 2/3 of the double page spread. Also the way the celebrity is dressed and also her hair and accessories suits the magazines genre, and the picture is also so large to let everyone know that she is the subject. The headline/title is actually a quote and we presume that the pictured celebrity (Lily Allen) has said this, and again this is very big to persuade the audience/reader to read this first. Also like other double page spreads there is a not very small, but yet still not a large amount of text/information on the topic, this is more so that ‘lazy’ readers would read all of the information and also remember the information.

Slide 10

This double page spread has an image which covers the entire two pages, and also has the text overlaid on the picture because is is so large. Again the Headline/title is a quote which we assume the group picture said, and also in the top left corner of the double page spread is a box which says ‘NEWS’, which adds to the quote headline/title in that this quote has made news. A drop cap has been used in the text/information of the double page spread, this has been used because the text has been overlaid over the image so the reader knows where the start of the text/information is.

Slide 11

This double page spread is one full page information/text, and the other side is one large picture of the celebrity ‘Katy Perry’. The image is unrealistic and more of a fantasy look, this weirdness attracts the audience/reader and also the pose of celebrity in the image has sex appeal which persuades the reader to read the text/information. The text/information is a Sans Serif style and has a large font to make it easier to read and more clear. Beneath the title/headline of the double page spread is piece of text with a larger font than the main information, which like on a contents page tells the audience/reader a small amount of what the story is about.

Slide 12

This double page spread is very unusual because on the page which is filled by text is an large L which covers the whole text/information, but this L represents Lady Gaga, the celebrity pictured on the other page, and Lady Gaga is also known for doing and being rather strange/weird. The L is also transparent to allow the audience/readers to still be able to read the information/text which is set out clearly other than the large red L covering the text/information. This is also a large amount of information compared to the other double page spreads, as the text is also of a rather small font and fills the whole page.
