From our audience research we decided that “Ditched” would be our title. This is because 38% of our audience gave it as their first choice preference. It also links in with the overall theme of our horror.
We decided that if our film was actually being made we would have a budget between $13-$16 million, like those made by working title. Out target audience is 15-24 year olds , and therefore our certificate is 15.
READ TREATMENT-
We thought that by going against conventions of horror and having a female antagonist, it would be more shocking. It also helps as we are all females so makes filming easy as we do not need constant outside help. We checked that this would still work for the audience and 11 out of 23 said that having a female antagonist would not put them off.
We also wanted to know which method of murder the audience thought would be most effective. From the results we concluded that 39% of the audience prefer fight scenes. Therefore we have changed our mise-en-scene to create an impression of a struggle/fight.
We want to use a range of shots such as a long shot, close ups, extreme long shots and point of view shots.
We went on a reccie to Alexandra park, and found this undergrowth to dump the body in. We also thought of the main risks of the park which are weather and public appearing in the background, we then came up with solutions for them.
Our set is in RB’s house, and we choose this as the mirror fits the prop list and will help the plot significantly. The filming cannot be effected by weather, which is a benefit.
From our audience research we found that 65% thought props were important and 22% thought they were extremely important. This meant that we have created a detailed prop list to ensure that this criteria is covered.
We’re going to have diagetic sound in the background during the bedroom scene (through a radio) , which carries on through the flashback using a sound bridge. Diagetic sounds such as screaming will occasionally over lap the music during the flashbacks.
We narrowed down out font choices to these two options from dafont.com. We will decide during editing which one to choose.

MOOD BOARD
Title- “Ditched” Through our audience survey we tested 6 potential film names. The results concluded that “Ditched”, was the best.
Institutional Context Conglomerate film studio with some British input, such as Working Title Distributed by Universal Budget $13 to $16 million Target audience 15-24 year old of both genders, although would possibly have more appeal to female audience Certificate 15
Film Analysis The nine film openings we looked at were: Let the Right One In (Alfredson, 2008) Black Christmas (Clark,1974) My Bloody Valentine 3D (Lussier, 2009) Saw V (Hackl, 2008) What Lies Beneath (Zemeckis, 2000) Shaun of the Dead (Wright, 2004) Final Destination 3 (Wong, 2006) The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (Slade, 2010)
Film Analysis From these openings we decided that We wanted a fairly simple, unassuming location, such as a house, to add contrast with the murder scene We wanted to stick with the idea of a female antagonist There will not be any dialogue Our film opening is going to include some handicam shots Mise-en-scene and makeup are particularly important in constructing the narrative in our film opening
Treatment The film begins with on 15th February Ella on getting ready the morning after she has killed her boyfriend, Chris. As she is getting ready, flashbacks of the murder the night before are shown. As she is getting ready, Ella looks at photos of her and her most recent boyfriend stuck around the mirror in her bedroom. She then adds then to a collection of photos of previous boyfriends stored behind the mirror. Over the next couple of days, the audience find out that Ella is actually a crazed psychopathic killer who has murdered her past boyfriends every Valentine’s Day. After luring her next victim, Ella begins planning the murder for the next year. Her boyfriend becomes suspicious of the fate of her past boyfriends after finding the photographs behind her mirror. As Chris leaves the house to go to the police, Ella goes into the bedroom and realises that Chris knows about the murders. The film ends with the police arriving at Ella’s house just after she has run out the back door.
Results of survey that affected our treatment We wanted to check this with our audience. Here are the results. Because of this we are keeping a female antagonist We wanted a female antagonist as we felt it made it more shocking. Also made filming easier as we are all girls.
Results of survey that affected our treatment. We wanted to know which method of murder would make the biggest impact on the audience. From this we have decided that our antagonist will fight and eventually strangle her victim. This will effect mise-en-scene as well as general plot
Shots we want to use Long shot of the bedroom Close up of limbs in a ditch Mid-shot of girl standing by mirror with photos around it Extreme long shot of ditch which cuts to the close up of woman in heels pushing man into it Point of view shot of her looking at the pictures Close up of Ella crying, with makeup running down her face.
Location This location is found in Alexandra Park. We decided that this would be a prime location for our dumping scene
Set For our set we are using RB’s house. This makes filming easy as it cannot be effected by weather. Also we have the home owner’s permission and easy access to the house. We liked this as the mirror fits with our prop list.
Prop List (Mise-en-scene) Because our audience said that props were very important we decided to make detailed notes of what to include.
Sound Diagetic sound, such as a piece of music or a song playing on the radio in the scene in the girl's bedroom with a non-diagetic soundtrack of the same song or piece of music playing throughout the opening, which would create a sound bridge diagetic sound in the flashbacks over the non-diagetic music We have to ensure that any music we use is not subject to copyright before putting it into our film
Fonts and Titles Ideas After looking on www.dafont.com for ideas on the font for our title, we found several suitable fonts. After group descussion, we decided that we like the following two fonts most. We thought that this font would look good in red as it would look like blood or lipstick on a mirror which would fit in with our film idea of having a female antagonist. As the film is set around Valentine’s Day, we thought that this was a good idea for a font and name for the film. Again, if written in red it would incorporate the two main themes in our opening by connoting both love and murder/death.
