Where do ducks live ? Ducks are mostly aquatic birds and live on inland water such as Lakes, canals, ponds and rivers. Duck comes from the old English word and means ‘ diver’.

What type of habitat does it like? Ducks like to be near water. This habitat can be damaged by water pollution, droughts drying up streams and rivers in summer.

What do ducks eat? Ducks eat lots of different foods (plants, insects and worms). Ducks can feed on water or on land. The shape of the duck’s beak helps it to collect food in the water.

Babies Ducks make nests to lay their eggs in. Eggs are usually laid in the spring when the weather is much wetter. Mother ducks are very caring and protective of their babies.

Where does it sleep? Ducks often sleep in groups. They often sleep in rows with the ducks at the ends sleeping with ‘one eye open’.

Predators Ducks have many predators. Ducklings are mostly hunted because they are young and small. The ducklings can’t fly So are easy prey for heron, pike, hawks and eagles. On land they are prey for foxes.

Facts Baby ducks are called ducklings, adult male ducks are called drake and adult female ducks are called hens. A group of ducks can be called a raft or a team. Ducks have waterproof feathers. Ducks can be kept as pets or on farms for food. Some famous ducks….
