Group 7.B Cancer is very personal to our group, because Naysa, Kendall, and Lilly have all had a family member diagnosed with cancer.

Naysa's Experience of cancer in her Family. My mother was diagnosed with Breast cancer when I was only 7 years old. My family is very thankful that she is a survivor and has had victory against her battle with cancer.

Kendall's Experience of Cancer in her Family. I was about 3 years old when my mother found out that she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She unfortunately died when I was five years old.

Lilly's Experience of Cancer In her Family Two of my grandparents were diagnosed with cancer when I was in the 4th grade. I vividly remember the days I found out. It was really scary, because nobody knew what was going to happen. Today, my Grandpa is a survivor, and I'm so thankful he's still here with us. My Grandmother is still fighting her battle.

Getting our Group/ Choosing our Topic Initially, we were okay with our group. None of us really talked a lot. However, after working together all this time, we've gotten pretty close. We ended up changing our topic because cancer was something that was a lot more personal.

Why it matters. Cancer is a disease that doesn't care if you're rich or poor. If you're a friend, mother, father, brother, or sister. You don't have to have cancer to be affected by it. There is currently no cure, and 7.6 million people die of cancer each year.

Phase 2: Service Fact: 1 in 4 americans will be diagnosed with cancer.

Breast Cancer Awareness Naysa, Kendall and Fahar went to a Health Fair for Phase 2.

Lilly and Nick Lilly and Nick worked at the Wilenchik Walk for Life in Schertz.

Cancer Therapy and Research Center. In March, our group took a visit to the CTRC to learn more about our topic. We talked to professionals about: *Clinical Trials *Cancer Treatment *Social Work Our profits from phase 3 should be donated to the CTRC.

What we learned. Worldwide, the 5 most common type of cancer that kill men are: lung, stomach, liver,colorectal and esophagus. Worldwide, the 5 most common type of cancer that kill women are: breast, lung, stomach, colorectal and cervical. Tobacco use is the single largest preventable cause of cancer in the world. "

Phase 3: Fundraising and Relay for Life. Fact: There are over 60 different organs in the body where a cancer can develop.

Initial Fundrasing Starting out, (like most groups) we sold chips, candy, and rice crispies to our classmates. In 3 days we had almost $100.

M.A.D Fair. At the M.A.D fair, we accomplished a lot. We shared our statistics to people at the fair. In return, people at the fair shared their stories with us. We also continued selling food and drinks..

Relay For Life Relay for Life was part of our groups phase 3. In this event we helped raise over 300 dollars by signing over 30 people for Relay For Life.

Our Goal Our goal was to make (at least) $200 to donate to the CTRC to assist cancer patients and their families. We're pleased to say that we met our goal. In total, we raised $206. .
