Walking Centre -Paul do Mar is a base for mountain and ‘levada’ walks -There are 2 main walks out of PDM village up mountains with stunning views including waterfalls, flowers and wildlife -The 2 walks link to other walks including ‘levada’ – walks along irrigation channels

Walking Centre -The Caminho Real do PDM is a ‘municipal path’ (full title: PR 19 ‘Caminho Real do Paul do Mar’) -It is the first walk of the annual Madeira Walking Festival which takes place in the month of January. -The trail starts from the village of Prazeres at 535 metres down to Paul do Mar Harbour at about 35 metres above sea level along the historic ‘municipal path’ . It’s about 2 kilometres long and takes about 80 minutes to complete. -This walk is not recommended for those that suffer from vertigo.

Walking Centre    -During the walk the villages of Jardim do Mar and Paul do Mar are visible, waterfalls can be seen and flora such as pride of Madeira (Echium nervosum) and Madeira mountain stock (Euphorbia piscatoria) can be viewed. -The walk is historic in that it is an old municipal path and before roads were built to the villages of Jardim do Mar and Paul do Mar these paths and the sea were the only access to them. People carried heavy loads on their backs up and down these cliffs and slopes for many years. -The walk is detailed in guidebooks

Summary: Self-catering holiday house 50 metres from beach, sea, ocean, quiet, between banana fields with ocean and mountain views. 3 floors, 3 bedrooms sleeps 5+. Free car parking. This quarter of Paul do Mar, Ribeira das Galinhas is probably the quietest and relaxing away from the busier and noisier quarters such as the fishing harbour area. Great location for starting mountain and levada walks (several walks can be started out of Paul do Mar) and to visit the villages of Jardim do Mar and Faja da Ovelha. Not far from the house is a slipway/jetty which is a safe swimming area. Other FREE water sports/activities include: fishing, snorkeling, stand-up surfing, bodyboarding. In Calheta town (10 minutes drive away) there are white sandy beaches and a marina where Dolphin-watching, Whale-watching and Big Game fishing boats operate from. Ribeira Brava another large town is 25 minutes away. Funchal City is 40 minutes away. The international airport is 1 hour away.
