Time spent at the Children Center I volunteered at the CSUB Children’s Center Located right on the university campus 9001 Stockdale Highway PROC 49 Bakersfield, CA 93311 Phone:(661)654-3165 http://www.csub.edu/childrenscenter/index.shtml I was placed in Ms. Rachel’s room where I volunteered 10 hours (age group 4 year olds)

Program’s Philosophy “The center’s philosophy is based on the values and beliefs as to what constitutes a quality child development program. A quality child development program provides a safe, healthy and nurturing environment that facilities the physical-motor, social-emotional, intellectual and language development of young children and responds to the needs of the student families served.”

Program Design This program is designed for children ranging in age of 2 to 5 year olds. This center is for faculty/ staff, students of the university, and people of the Bakersfield community who need child care. The CSUB children’s center is a place that offers a care-free atmosphere for the children to learn. For children where they are free to learn, create, explore, and grow through play. The center’s staff and volunteers work together to provide growing opportunities for the children to develop in their social environment, emotional, cognitive, and physical areas.

Program Design Cont.’ All families and children are welcome to the center and are just as important as the next person/ child. The CSUB children’s center also encourages parents to get involved with the centers activities/ program. A parent can get involved with the center by participating in the classroom, activity projects, donating supplies/ materials, or fundraising for the center. People in the community are also encouraged to participate and get involved with the children’s center.

Activities A majority of the time spent at the children’s center the children were mostly outside. Due to my schedule I could only go to the center in the early mornings. Therefore, the children were mainly outside running around in the playground.

Snack Time During my volunteering I was able to assist with the process of snack time. Children at the center are encouraged to serve themselves their snack. I also would help the staff clean the tables before and after snack time. SNACK TIME SETUP DEMOSTRATION OF SELF SERVING

Slide 8

Washing Hands I learned that teaching children hygiene was very important at the children’s center. Children at the center were taught that they needed to wash their hands after they use the restroom, before snack time, before lunch, and any other time that it is necessary.

Learning Experience What I learned from this project would have to be learning about how the center works and about all the children I learned a lot about how the center is ran and the Some rules included that children can play in any part of the play ground area, children can walk around with no shoes when they are outside, and children do not have to finish their snack or meal but they are encouraged to do so  I also learned that I definitely want to teach some day There is so much you can learn from children and watching them develop is an amazing experience Overall, I had a fun experiences with the staff and children! Everyone at the center was very helpful and I enjoyed working with them during the times I volunteered
