Introduction Do you ever feel like breaking down? Do you ever feel out of place? Like somehow you just don't belong And no one understands you, well maybe is cause your suffering depression. 15% to 20% of American teenagers have suffered so you never know maybe your also part of the statistics. Theirs various causes for teen depression some of them are preventable. The biggest problem to this situation is that almost no one seeks help due to the lack of information about this topic.
Causes.. Teen depression is caused by various reasons, some of them may be inherited from generations but some of them are caused by their surroundings for instance bullying in school or harassments from other students. Depression is also caused because of the maturation process teenagers go thru. A sudden change in hormones may also be the cause for depression. The top 3 causes for depression are conflict with parents, death of a loved one, and a breakup with a girlfriend or boyfriend.
Symptoms Symptoms for depression can vary but they are visible. Some of them may be sudden drops in grades, excessive sleeping, shoplifting, headaches, pain in lower back, alcohol or drug abuse, and mood changes are symptoms. Its normal for teens to feel confused and have sudden mood changes but if the unhappiness lasts more than 2 weeks professional help is needed. Depression can lead to serious stuff for instance suicide.
Consequences.. Depression can have very serious consequences, for example suicide, or the teen suffering depression can run away from their house and have their parents worried, they can also turn into criminals. When teens are suffering depression its not them no more. They see things different, people, their classmates, and family too. Not only their life is danger but so is others, because they can loose the sense and do a criminal act towards someone.
Solutions Depression can actually be treated lots of people think that medication is the only way out but no they are wrong. Depression can be cured by therapy which involves no medication at all. If teen depression is being caused by family problems then the family must take family therapy. If depression is being caused by school incidents then the person suffering from depression may need help from teahers and classmates make them feel like they are not alone.
Medication .. Depression can also be treated with medicine but lots of people prefer therapy. The first medication used to treat depression is called Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) Flouxetine (Prozac) and (Lexapro) are the only (SSRIs) major medication to treat depression. The side and negative side effect of these medications is that they can probably cause suicidal thoughts the FDA warned.
Examples
Suicide ? Believe it or not depression leads people to suicide and this is not a good thing at all. People suicide because they don’t want to live in a world where they feel hopeless, alone, sad and like nobody cares for them. People show symptoms like hopeless in life, giving away stuff they own or talking about death too often.
But Don’t Worry Yes, don’t worry theirs always a way out no matter what. You may feel like your just a no one in this world but you have to admit that life isn't easy everybody has problems and its up to you and your self to face them with your head up. We were put in this world for a reason and for that reason you should make the best out of it. Seek help your not alone, remember its never late too start. And the best of all no matter how dark the night is theirs always a brighter day
