London is the only city which hosted the Olympic Games three times. The first time the Olympics took place in London was in 1908. It’s London 2012…
The second time was in 1948.
In 2012 the Olympics are taking place in London for the third time.
The Olympic Clock in Trafalgar Square in central London is counting down until the Games begin on 27 July 2012.
4,700 Olympic medals have been made in a factory in South Wales.
Approximately 250,000 volunteers are going to be there to welcome guests at the London Olympics 2012. They are called “Games Makers”.
It’s not going to be easy to keep the games safe. More than 12,000 police officers and 13,500 soldiers will be there, ready to prevent terrorist attacks.
More than 10,500 olympic and 4,200 paralympic athletes will compete at the London Olympics 2012.
The Olympics torch relay will be run from 19 May to 27 July.
The torch relay arrived on 18 May 2012 from Greece.
The relay will last 70 days, with 66 evening celebrations, six island visits with about 8,000 people carrying the torch a distance of about 8,000 miles (12,800 km), starting from Land's End in Cornwall.
The torch will have one day outside of the United Kingdom when it will visit Dublin on 6 June.
Queen Elisabeth II. will open the Olympic Games. The queen follows in the footsteps of her father, the late King George VI, who opened the 1948 London Olympics, and her great grandfather, King Edward VII, who opened the 1908 London Olympics.
Join the London Olympics and feel the spirit! This summer London welcomes the world!
