Design Journal Vegemite Project By Carolyn Boseley

Design Brief Objective: To design a creative photo comic using images of young people e.g. students. Images can be your own, movie stills, photo galleries. The comic will promote the nutritional value of Vegemite and present a theme of Vegemite as a trendy product Target audience: Young people in the age bracket 13 to 25 Project limitations and special conditions Timeline – A storyboard based design journal is required within two weeks Budget — $60000 has been approved for research and development of the design journal.

Research-First design for photo comic I chose a famous film: Pirates of the Caribbean to base the photo comic concept around. Then I collected images to gain further inspiration for the storyline.

Storyboard sketch -Storyline: Captain Jack Sparrow and crew find land (australia), then they walk through land with kangaroo in background and they wonder where they are, Jack Sparrow falls off a cliff and finds a chest full of vegemite, cuts to a photo of the nutritional value of vegemite then the last photo is of the crew pulling up the chest with Jack Sparrow standing on it and yelling at crew to “put their backs into it” then he tosses up jars of vegemite to help them pull him and the treasure chest up.

Concept-Second idea for comic After re-reading the requirements I wasn’t entirely happy with the first idea for the photo comic. I decided to make a second idea for the comic to be more focused on promoting the nutritional side of vegemite instead of a story concept. I still used a character from Pirates of the Caribbean but I wanted it more directed towards a young female audience concerned with how they look and their weight. Ideas to include in option 2 design: Using an actress-Keirra Knightly out of a famous film: Pirates of the Caribbean To promote the nutritional value of vegemite To promote vegemite as a nutritional breakfast idea to get results for looking good

Research-Second idea for comic Vegemite nutrition My photo comic will be based around the nutritional value of vegemite on toast for breakfast. Worlds richest source of vitamin B A rich source of folate Has no artificial colours or flavours Is virtually fat-free Contains no added sugar Contains protein Nutritious breakfast Vitamin B is important for the functioning of the nervous system. Niacin helps maintain healthy skin
