We usually use the infinitive to express the purpose of something. In this way is called an infinitive of purpose. Ronald called to know about his family. José and Rosa are planning to have a wonderful wedding. Example: To serve Infinitives and Gerunds? It is important to know that infinitives and gerunds are verbs, but its function within the sentence is the same so that nouns should not be confused with the main verbs of the sentence.

Infinitive: How is it formed? To form the infinitive of a verb usually we place you in that verb The preposition to after another verb. However, there are cases in which this preposition should not place you. Such cases are when accompanied by auxiliary verbs, modals, questions and negative answers.

Gerunds How is it formed? A gerund form with the termination or suffix "ing”, But not all training with "ing" is gerund. It is very important to differentiate a gerund from a progressive. While the gerund is just, progressive times always carry the verb to be but the main verb form (ing), operating within the same verb phrase. Example: Cesar likes eating cold pizza. Mirian prefers listening to music at home.
