Slide 5

How to Make a Crazy Quilt Decide on size of your chosen project. Cut Foundation fabric, (muslin or cotton) into blocks. Easier to work on blocks than huge sheet of fabric! Tip: I use 16 in. blocks for my Queen size toppers.

Slide 6

How to Make a Crazy Quilt Cut fabric in random size and shapes. Fold edges under and pin to foundation fabric. Do so along all edges except outer edge of block. I usually start pinning from a corner but one can start from the center. Cover whole foundation blocks with quilting pieces. Tip: Can add lace embellishments to quilt at this time also.

Slide 7

How to Make a Crazy Quilt Tip: Use a soft surface (I use a sofa cushion) to pin down your block. It helps to create tension for you to gently pull on the block, as you're sewing. This is to help keep fabric smooth and even and avoid puckering.

Slide 8

How to Make a Crazy Quilt Sew quilt pieces onto foundation. I use the stitches in this sketch. Solid lines show atop the fabric, dotted lines show direction on back of quilt blocks. Try to keep threads to match fabric and be invisible.

How to Make a Crazy Quilt Each block should start looking like the ones in this photo. Blocks are easier to work with though maybe medium sized projects, like a wall hanging, can be done on one whole fabric foundation. Finish embellishing all seams on each block except outer edges.

Slide 12

How to Make a Crazy Quilt Sew all blocks together to form your near finished Crazy quilt. Option to embellish the new seams is your choice. Add edging fabric. It is to frame and highlight the crazy quilting.

Slide 13

How to Make a Crazy Quilt Finishing the Crazy quilt. I will usually sew all sides together, flip inside out and machine stitch the edges. Add ties and/or tacking stitches, starting from center of crazy quilt, working outwards, helps to keep a flat shape.
