Using Ribbon tools 1. Select the cell, range of cells, or characters that you want to format. 2.On the home tab, in Font group, do anything the following: *Click the font box to choose the font you want. *Click the font size box to change the size of the text. *Click the font color button to change the color for the text. *Click Bold ,Italic or Underline to apply styles to text.

Using Format Cells dialog box 1.Display the Format cells dialog box by doing any of the following: *Click the Font dialog box launcher *Press Ctrl + Shift + F *Press Ctrl+1 2.Click the font tab.

A.Font list- allows you to select the font type that you want to apply. B.Font style list- allows you to select the font styles. C.Size List- allows you to select font size.Remember that approximately 72 points is equivalent to 1 inch in height. D.Color List- allows you to select colors.

Using shortcut keys To format cells quickly, select the cell, range or text then, press the correct shortcut key.The table below shows which shortcut key combination applies to which format.

Applying Number Formats You can add number formats such as currency, symbols,decimal makers,percent signs,and other symbols which will help you identify the type of data you present in a cell.A formatted number makes it look more professional and is often easier to read than the unformatted number. To easily format the numbers,you can use the number styles in the Number group.See the different styles at the next page:

Currency style – this option adds a dollar sign with commas and two decimal places Percent styles - this option multiplies the number by 100 and adds a percent sign. Comma styles - This option adds a comma for every three digits to the left of the decimal place with two decimal places

Adjusting Decimal Place *Using Ribbon Tools Select the cells you want to format.To display more or fewer digits after the decimal point, click Increase Decimal or Decrease Decimal on the Number Group.

*Using the Format Cells dialog box a.Select the cell/s b.Click the number dialog box launcher. c.In the category list,click currency,accounting,percentage or scientific. d.In the Decimal places box,enter the decimal places you want to apply. e.Click ok.

DESIGNING CUSTOM NUMBERS FORMAT To creaate cutom formatson your worksheet,do the following: 1.Select the cells where you want to apply the custom format. 2.On the home tab,choose Number groupand click the number dialog box launcher.The Format cells dialog box launcher will appearswith the number tab activated. 3.Seclect Custom from the category list. 4.Select the custom format closest to the desire format from the type list.

5.In the Type: box , edit the number format base on your preferred format. 6.Click OK or press ENTER.

Formatting date and time To format date and time, follow these steps: 1.Select the cell containing the dates or times you want to format. 2.On the Home tab, click on the Number dialog box launcher.The number dialog box launcher appears. a.Click DATE in the category list to format the date. b.Click TIME in the category list to format time. 3.Click OK.

Adding Borders 1.Select the cell or range of cells where borders are to be added. 2.On the Home tab,in the Font group, do one of the following: *To apply the most recently selected border style, click Borders beside the Underline buttonin the Font group on the Home tab. *To apply a new or different border style, click on the arrow next to Borders ,and then click a border style.

To enhance border settings further,follow these steps: Launch the Font dialog box. 2. Click the border tab. 3.Click the linestyle you want. 4.Click a button to indicate the border placements. 5. Click OK.
