This village was only accessible by sea and mountain trail until the 1970s. Its still unspoilt. 'Sunny House' which has a tourism licence is 50 metres from Paul do Mar beach, quiet between banana fields. It sleeps 5 (3 bedrooms) has 3 floors & 2 sun terraces with spectacular mountain & ocean views. The sunsets are the best! There are 2 mountain trails out of the village. One is a 'royal trail' 'a caminho real' the first walk of the annual 'Madeira Walking Festival'. Both connect to 'levada' irrigation walks across the UNESCO protected ancient laurisilva forest. Paul do Mar beach was a venue for the 2001 World Surfing Championships with its 'barreling waves'. Traditional fishing boats still operate out of the new harbour.
